I was in a great marriage to a beautiful woman and had 3 kids and I was looking forward to whatever life had in store.

And amazingly things have gone better than I could of imagined. I survived two buy outs and I am still employed, although about ready to retire. Two of my kids have graduated college and the third one will this May. And my wife and I are truly in a great place. We bought a house last year in Linn creek and plan on living there after retirement. Life is good.

 

I should have added:  My wife is fine now and my youngest is a junior in college and the other two are grown and gone with their own kids.  My wife and I very happy, financially ok and we look forward to traveling more and retirement.  So relative to 20 years ago life is great!  Thanks for making me realize that, @Blazerman!

I'm in the same place I was 20 years ago....literally! I was an 8th grader at the school district that I currently work and my office is also located in that same 8th grade wing of that building in what used to be a computer lab.

As for new years eve, I'm sure i was sitting on a computer talking to girls and friends on MSN messenger in between playing Starcraft or Ultima Online.

20 years ago....I lived in Genoa, Illinois with my wife and young daughter, working for the City of West Chicago engineering department.  My son was born roughly 6 months later.  And a year after that, we moved back to central Iowa, where I've been since.  And now we are preparing for a move to MO.  We've been married for 26 years and counting.  My daughter has a 1.5 years of Doctor of Pharmacy school/rotations left.  My son is in college.  Life has been pretty great for the entire time we've been here.  The town we live in has grown from 27,000 people to 65,000 people over the past 18 years.  Its split into 2 high schools and built numerous elementary and middle schools in an attempt to keep up with the flood of new people and young families.  New businesses, new restaurants, new parks and entertainment venues.... its really hard to imagine a better place to have raised our family.  New subdivisions often means new stormwater detention ponds getting built, which means new fishing opportunities.  The fishing locally has gotten better and better each year...or I've just gotten better at it.  I'm gonna miss it.  I'm looking forward to milder winters in MO, though.

Well, as it's counting down to New Years, we're sitting at home, thinking about climbing into the hot tub.  Company our own age just left a half hour ago, because like us they don't really care about staying awake until midnight.  And...20 years ago we were doing exactly the same thing.  We watched the clock strike midnight while sitting in the hot tub.  That night, however, both of us were sick with the flu, and shivering in the hot tub with chills.  Tonight we're both healthy, Mary has been clear of her cancer problems for three years now, her shoulder replacement is going well.  Back then we were working hard, as I painted constantly, went to 12 or more art shows a year, we spent a lot of late nights framing prints and packing them for shipping them.  Now...well, semi-retirement is about as good as it gets.

We bought into the Y2K thing enough to stash away a couple sleeping bags and a Coleman stove with a few gallons of fuel, and a pile of canned goods.  Didn't really expect anything to happen, but figured that if nothing else we'd be a bit prepared if the New Madrid Fault slipped.  Looking back, it was pretty stupid.

Lots of changes in 20 years, yet in some ways it seems like just yesterday.

20 years ago bro and I were at Rim Shoals Camp, we enjoyed a great steak dinner and turned in early, in the morning we went fishing. 
We’ve both been through a lot since then, but we haven’t changed much. Yesterday we played golf, we’ll have our steak dinner this afternoon.

I thought it was funny over 40 years ago I was out New Years Eve with my former Brother in Law.

We went to a Drive In we was drinking. He pulls a knife on someone. Me and him get to fighting, I cut his ear. Didn’t want to go to the Hospital. Gets sick in back of my car.

Take him by his folks where he was staying. Asked him if he could make it in ok? Yes.

Next morning get a call wanting to know why I cut him up and dumped him in the yard?
