The tang of the burnt hair set it apart and makes it much better than say a big ole water snake skinned and chunked up and cooked over a fire.  Which might havee been better if we had marinated it in beer before we ate it instead of during and after, cheap walmart shoes got nothing on that for taste and texture.  Seems like many of the odd things I have eaten have beer somewhere involved, like a jar of pickled (not canned) carp at a conference one time, sober it was, in a word, terrible.

One of the other weird things I have eaten that was pretty good was sandhill crane, which was chunked up, rolled in seasoned flour and deep fried, was a very beef like texture and flavor.

Ribeye in the sky, according to many.

They are omnivores and fish is not a large part of their diet.  I've always heard their meat is the best.  Never had it so don't know.  But if I ever get the chance I will take it.

Heard so much about the ribeye of the sky that I would love to hunt and eat sandhills. 😀.

I know a guy in SWMO that wants to hunt them too but is often too busy collecting jewelry during waterfowl season.

"Aren't bad eating".

That tells me instantly that I ain't putting it in my mouth.

In fact, as code phrases go I'd rank that one as even more instructive than, "She has a great personality."

I think your on to something there. :)

I remember they were grouped up by the thousands during a certain time of year in Nebraska and I think at that time they are protected.  I don't remember, it's been 30 years.

They are about the only thing from there I haven't tried.  Guessing they wouldn't be bad.  I would try it.

My ace number one buddy from the old USMC days through right now is from Omaha.  He told me that joke in 1970.  I've been using it ever since.😎

Sounds like a good guy if you have been close friends that long. I love hanging around people that like to have fun.

Thanks but I'm gonna stick with Ribeye of the Ground otherwise known as "beef".

In fact, for New Year's this year I smoked and then reverse seared some ribeye "caps" on the ol' Camp Chef and I might not even eat "normal" beef ribeye again.

The most outstanding piece of dead cow I've ever eaten and, crows and cranes be danged, I've ate a lot of dead stuff as for some reason I prefer it that way.

Added a couple giant King Crab legs and welcomed 2020.

And ya know what?

I must have prepared it just right cause it tasted a lot like beef and crab!🥩 🦀
