Bill Babler Posted February 24, 2020 Author Posted February 24, 2020 Those Tour guys fishing Okeechobee if Fl. would give a pinky finger for a 5.78. Another deal is them talking about shiner fishermen. Said they make you look like a fool, your not even getting a sniff and they are catching one pig after the other. I have always wanted to go do that. About 90 percent of my clients that have fished Florida say its crazy fun and most of them have caught their fish of a lifetime doing it. Anyone here ever shiner fished in Florida? Royal Blue 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Sprint21fter Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 I have on Lake Fork! Also ran "water dogs" big salamanders. Caught some big ones doing it with a guide. We would work areas first with artificals and if we didn't pick much up out the live bait came and catching would commence. magicwormman 1

I need to get out and do that one time when I'm down there. abkeenan 1

Anyone here ever shiner fished in Florida? I've done it, but not near as exciting as catching them on artificial! My buddy caught a 12 lber on one of my swimming worms! Now that made me a little jealous! I've always said that live bait is reserved for old people, kids, and HANDICAPS. Now I qualify for 2 out of 3! I just can't get any thrill out of live bait! Maybe some day.
Gumboot Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Speaking of bait fishing. 20 years ago I went on a guided smallmouth trip to Texoma, was really surprised when guide showed up with a bait well full of shad. We'd go from cove to cove where the guide basically had the smallmouth trained. He'd throw out a handfull of shad and the water would boil like you were throwing fish food in a catfish pond. Can't tell you how many smalls we caught that day swimming a live shad on a bare hook. Not my favorite way to catch them, but catch them we did.

So my family goes about once a year with her. Stay at the Polynesian Resort. I've fished twice with the "guides" on the Seven Seas Lagoon lake that surrounds the Magic Kingdom resort properties. Guides use shiners. I pulled a skinny fat headed 6lb'er out of whatever submerged grassy vegetation they have there in that water on a shiner. Nice but nothing huge. Been wanting to go to Kissimmee or other Central Florida lakes off property but haven't had the chance as the kiddo's fun takes precedence over daddy's fishing itch. mixermarkb, magicwormman, snagged in outlet 3 and 1 other 4
Champ188 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 I wouldn't trade every LM in Florida for what we have here in the Ozarks and the immediate surrounding area. Gorgeous scenery, great numbers of all 3 bass species, and an ever-growing walleye fishery for culinary enjoyment. God has blessed us richly. mixermarkb, magicwormman, evilcatfish and 6 others 8 1

Could we get a little of the warm weather in January and February please??? Seeing the sun wouldn't hurt either. Champ188 and magicwormman 1 1
