The chances of finding one that size used are pretty slim I'd guess.  My fishing buddy has a 17' WeldCraft that is mod v with a jet tunnel.  He bought it new in '95.  The only other one like it I've ever seen was an 18 footer that was at the dealership at the same time.  If you can find one it will definitely turn better than a flat bottom.  I still have to remind myself to pull out of the power before I start a turn with my boat.  It likes to slide if I don't let it settle a bit first.

I was looking and weld-craft shows the option available for a 14x52 jet tunnel also.  I would really like to find a .125 hull though

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

If not a tiller...Try to set it up as a stick steer.  that would be best to balance the weight...plus you’d feel like an airplane pilot up there...

people are proud 1448 Jon boats...hard to find em

are you still fishing crooked creek?

I don't see anything from Alweld in .125 either.  All .080 or .100.

I want to be sure I have something that can take abuse.

.1 can take a lot of abuse...I’ve hit plenty of rocks but have never poked a hole in the hull.

It's an ongoing debate whether your better off with a lighter hull, or a heavier one....in terms of causing damage upon impact.    A piston suffers worse damage than an empty beer can when thrown on a concrete floor.

Lighter hull with slick coat.  @grizwilson recommended it and I had our piling guy apply it.  he coats marine piling with similar stuff but primarily for rust inhibitor.  Crazy slick and I don’t have even a scratch even on the front where I beach it all the time.

I agree with wrench.  They both fall at the same rate of speed, but the piston has more mass.  It is more susceptible to damage such as warping,  chipping, or just breaking.
