Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 8, 2020 Root Admin Posted October 8, 2020 Boated to the Narrows this morning. Was fishing by 4:30 am. Tried skating a mouse. No takes. Went to my go-to night fly, the blood leech. Caught 19 rainbows before 7 am between 11 and 17 inches. Lots of misses. Moon was bright but not bad. They all fought hard and we’re in great condition. Ham Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 Are bats ever an issue ? I think at some point, you're gonna snag a bat. MickinMO 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I never have and I used to fish where they were all around me, could hear the wing beats. I always thought that I'd get one eventually but they can turn very short and seem to know fly lines are dangerous or at least not unoccupied airspace. I like evenings after dark better than mornings.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 8, 2020 Author Root Admin Posted October 8, 2020 No bats. Three different times, ppl set their car alarms off before going to work... very early. Bet the neighbors loved it.

Bet the neighbors loved it. I did that about a month ago. Bumped the fob in my pocket at 4:45 on a Saturday. My wife was not happy. I snagged a blue heron in my back cast in the dark once. He was about as happy as my wife😂 dpitt, Ham, fishinwrench and 1 other 2 2
fishinwrench Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Bats will home on on your fly, and have no trouble catching it mid-cast. I had it happen once in broad daylight. Luckily he hit the water, broke my tippet, and was able to fly away. I say luckily because I had no intentions on carefully unhooking him.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I get all freaked out in the dark fishing sometimes. Herons fly around at night and what one accidentally skewers my through my noggin?!?! it could happen..... laker67 1
FishnDave Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I fished this Tricolored Bat out of the river while wading/flyfishing for smallmouth bass in Iowa. I'm not sure if his getting dunked in the first place was due to me or not. Cute little guy... snagged in outlet 3 and Johnsfolly 2

I get freaked out too. When the sun goes down everything on the ground looks like a spider, and everything in the trees looks like monkeys. Flashlights just make it worse. There's no safe space.
