MOPanfisher Posted February 16, 2021 Posted February 16, 2021 When i was a kid I was too cheap to buy actual beetle spins, but could buy offset safety spin type spinners and put whatever crappie jig or curly tail yu found and hammer bass in ponds, and fish in the creeks. Dad was a die hard Mepps guy in the creek, but some days I could whoop him with the plain old spinners. Johnsfolly and Terrierman 2

I sent 183 squirrel tails to Mepps last week. When you buy more, Moore and mopan you can thank me or cuss me for the price. I fished them in 75 through 80 quite a bit. They were the cats meow right after ice out on farm ponds and into the spring. Slow retrieve size 4s and 5s with dressed trebles. Those big stinkin green bass loved them. That's the problem with fishing for white bass with them. Stinky ole largemouth can't leave them alone. BilletHead 1

If you're targeting Whites, and catching LM, then you probably need to move. The 2 don't usually pal out together. At least that's MY theory, and I can't think of a single time where I've been catching both in the same area at the same time. It works the other way around too. I'd challenge you to catch a green bass in the same area of a creek during the Spring white bass run. Doing so has always been extremely rare in my experiences.
