jdmidwest Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I tend to stray away from all forms of news media. Its all propaganda now that we have entered a communist society. snagged in outlet 3, fishinwrench, vernon and 1 other 4 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. And Mercury Marine's desire to always be first. They rushed everything to comply...... but their main goal (of course) was to remain the fastest outboard on the market. As with everything else that moves.... Things that go fast... don't go fast for very long. Increased Performance always comes with a price. Where they really won the game, was in marketing. They give alot away for free, just to ensure that a black motor gets mounted on nearly every boat that is sold. The majority of their sales is SALTWATER, and no matter how well designed an outboard is..... it can only last so long in the salt. Johnson/Evinrude built freshwater motors that truly were designed to last..... but the shrewd marketing geniuses at Brunswick outsmarted them. So your freshwater Merc....no matter how well you try to maintain it, is probably only going to last as long as a motor subjected to continuous saltwater use. Therefore, parts for Mercs start becoming NLA (no longer available) after about 7 years. 2 years after the warranty expires. It's a conspiracy. 😳 I only ask because i love a good rant. I have a buddy wanting to sell a 03 vmax on a champ for a bigger champion with a 99 Opti with unknown hours, I told him dont sell something that works for another persons prob

Well, yes they were ... you could depend on them to crap out long before they should. Those were the years when they were known as the Poptimax. I'd tell my buddy he better stay with the known quantity ... no telling how many hours that 99 Merc has on it or exactly when it's going to "pop".

LA Times, Washington Post, New York Times, Fort Worth Star-Telegram to name a few ,,, you can pretty much rely on what you read. But when you get into the broadcast media or internet-based news sites other than PBS, you can find just about anything spun to fit your ear. That's what those "journalists" do these days ... intentionally lean one direction or the other in order to please a portion of the population and "buy" their loyalty. big c, Terrierman, ness and 1 other 4

It started just with the evening, prime-time talent, but it's all day now. The sad thing is that most people don't know the difference between the two, so actual journalism gets lumped into commentary and vice versa. Terrierman 1

We print journalists never had any real reason to dislike the TV guys, although we did call them "golden throats." 😆 But increasingly over the years, they cut their own throats by racing each other to be first on the air with a story, and in doing so, they discredited themselves with sensationalism and shoddy journalism. You are also right that the most disturbing part is how many consumers buy into that malarkey. ness, Terrierman and DADAKOTA 3
fishinwrench Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 Perception is a crazy thing. You can have 6 people on a pontoon boat, and each one will tell a different story about a boating accident. vernon and Ruger5555 2

Good journalism would get the perspective of the boaters on the boat, analysis from Water Patrol, and witnesses from the shore. Then they'll follow up on the next day or later in the week. But, TV especially, only gets 1 perspective. Watch local TV news in any market across the country and almost every story will be a 1 source story, which is lazy and not what they were taught in J school. Print journalism does a much better job because they aren't limited by the time constraints of a 23 minute newscast. Champ188 1
packersooner Posted August 24, 2021 Author Posted August 24, 2021 Thanks for the responses, everyone. Yeah I've used bungee cords on my front unit cover in the past but have now gone to larger rubber bands. They seem to hold better (more friction). Just never imagined that the wind would dislodge the back unit cover given that it is protected by the console. Jason
