Members Hawkfarm Posted September 14, 2021 Members Posted September 14, 2021 Just from August 1 through this last Sunday I've gone through 60 pounds of sugar. I have 17 48 ounce feeders out and the last two weeks I have been making over 6 gallons of sugar water every 4-5 days. These pictures are from a corner feeder on the porch in back. It looks like WWI dogfights all the time. Usually they are gone by mid September but with the higher temps I guess they may stick around longer. And I'll buy more sugar. I can't figure out how to get my pictures to show up. They are on Flicker. Basfis, Johnsfolly, Greasy B and 5 others 7 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 I can’t see your pics. Cool though!
Dutch Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Thanks. That’s an amazing pic. We only have 4 and they never drink together. They just chase each other around the back yard. FishnDave 1
Johnsfolly Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 @Hawkfarm you and @BilletHead have a similar situation with the hummers. We never had enough in a year to go through a 5 lb bag of sugar let alone how much you guys go through. We would have loved to have more, but living in the burbs has some drawbacks. Very cool to see so many feeding together. BilletHead 1

They are beginning to slow down here some and by the first of October pretty much gone. Had eight feeders out at one time this season and was going through one to two gallons of surly a day. Crazy. A video I did a few years ago just to see of I could do it, FishnDave, tho1mas and Johnsfolly 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" In good years we may have 4 or 5 hitting those two feeders. Usually would have one front yard and one back yard male chasing everyone away from the feeders. FishnDave 1
fishinwrench Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 If you ever want to lose your love for hummingbirds, just make it a daily routine to run your outboard on a garden hose while you try to work on it. Something about that either puts them into attack mode, or makes them hungry....and they think your eyeballs are delicious flowers. IMO there is nothing cute or desirable about #@!?*"#@ HUMMINGBIRDS ! 😠
