Looks like a "hair bug" to me. Good scud, bluegill, trout pellet imitator.  Heading north to St Louis today for a few tying supplies myself. 10 thousand dollars of hooks, materials, feathers, beads, and flashy stuff sitting in front of me and no 8 orange Uni thread or orange micro chenille

Not bad for a first fly...Save it, and look at it from time to time. The "Wapsi Fly Tying Handbook" and the  "Complete Book of Fly Tying" by Eric Leiser are really good references for fly tying techniques...You can probably pick them up used for less than $10 each.

Here's one that would be a good practice fly for a new tyer. IMG_20220204_223553680~2.jpg

Nothing but 2 different sizes of Ultra Chenille.

What did you rub on the white chenille to keep it stiff??

Did the Bob and Tom show today.  Bob's place, Feathercraft produced my orange uni and micro chenille with about $30 other misc stuff.  Tom's place, T Hargrove drained a few more dollars.  Did get to visit with Tom, did not see Bob around.

Lots of empty bins, guess they are having trouble getting stuff too.  Lead wire is getting scarce.  Johnny's bass boats are getting scary high, a Tracker 175 with a 40 Merc is a 25k boat now.

It isn't stiff.  Once it gets wet those little legs and tails move like LEGS & TAILS.

It's the same chenille that the infamous San Juan worm is made of.

Had my first class this evening.   Bead head hare's ear nymph.

Top is my first.   Guess it helps to take the class.   I'm still not unhappy about it.  I plan to try it out this weekend on some bluegill.
