Guys, this stuff about the team weighing six fish is being blown way the heck out of proportion. I know the boater half of those two guys and he's as straight up as they come. I had him as a back seater on at least two occasions when fishing Central Pro-Am and can personally attest to his character. Look, even BASS and FLW pros have made this mistake. Happened at the FLW Walmart Open on Beaver Lake one year.

Bottom line ... no one was trying to "grease one by" anyone. As much as the anglers, the bump board guy should've caught it. My friend put a lengthy post on Facebook explaining what happened and that there was no ill intent. Honest mistake. Crap happens. Don't blow it into something it's not.

You weren’t there …. Mistakes do happen . He probably didn’t know he had six like I said . But he also didn’t turn himself in . Didn’t bring any attention to it . And then scurried off to the release boat after the crowd called it out

I’m not pointing the cheating finger one bit . It scares me that Anglers in action didn’t catch it . Then acted as if they did. The anglers should have caught it while culling all day long , should have caught it when bagging fish , should have caught it when the bump guy checked it. Should have caught when the pictures are being taken . I understand that crap happens in the heat of the moment . But dang ! That’s a heck of a lot of chances to turn yourself in. No one is blowing anything out of proportion . This is exactly what happened . AIA didn’t catch it . Nor did the team guys … two women in the crowd were the last saving grace from him walking away with 10,000 bucks !!! It was a screwup of epic proportions and I’m actually shocked no one is saying squat about it!!!  Everyone is all for free passes and not holding anyone accountable anymore! Hopefully each side of this debacle learn from this . AIA said they will now have two sets of eyes on the bump check station . So that’s at least something

From what I'm hearing Blevins and Blevins, were asked not to fish and told they were not welcome.

They showed up, were allowed to fish and won.

Someone said AIA had a rule if you were caught cheating in any derby you were banned. They have been caught cheating.

I guess maybe there are some legal issues. I know there were a lot of mad anglers about allowing them to fish.

I can assure you the Blevins Team is not cheating, I watched them take a polygraph (I’ve witnessed him take several) & he passed. Everyone wants to think because they made a mistake (much like the 6 fish) they’re automatically cheating. Which I don’t consider a phone call cheating, it’d of been different if they was caging, getting fish from another contestant, and so on but they wasn’t. He’s fished bfl’s, Toyota series with co-anglers & several other series with different partners, he’s just kicking your butt fair & square.

I agree he’s really really good . I don’t have a single problem with them fishing any tournament. I agree it was a mistake made . I like fishing against the best , I don’t like losing over and over to him . But who would . They brought all the controversy on themselves when they. Broke the rules though . So I also don’t feel bad for them .

If you don't like the way AIA runs their tournaments, no one if forcing you to fish them. Plenty of other choices out there. No need for all the drama ... unless you're into that kind of stuff? (e.g., last saving grace, screwup of epic proportion ...)

It was a mistake. My friend and his partner made a mistake. AIA made a mistake. Simple as that. Mistakes should serve as reminders that (a) they can and will happen as long as we are on this earth and (b) the best we can do is take what we can learn from them and move forward.

And no, I wasn't there. But when you start suggesting that a good man/friend of mine tried to steal $10k, then I'm going to come to his defense. And when you say they had multiple chances to turn themselves in and didn't, then yes, you are pointing the cheating finger.

Absolutely don't know, however the DQ was for a third party  directing the team during tournament hours to locations and providing what baits to throw on those locations.

Via phone or personal contact that is completely against the rules in any derby. Let alone one for that much money.

Haven't fished a derby in years or one that involved the Blevins so don't have a dog in the fight.

@Champ188Maybe this is why no one ever mentions this type of stuff . You act like I’m sensationalizing this . You really can’t screw up any more than letting the wrong guy walk away with $10,000. In this context if that’s not an epic screw up I’m not sure what would be . I thought it was a topic worth talking about . Your friend probably didn’t know . It probably was an honest mistake . Hell he probably is a good guy . But he also made a decision after that weigh in to try and turn those fish in . Was it a decision made quickly and carelessly? Yes it most likely was . So I agree that it was a mistake AIA missed it . But for that split second there at the end when the crowds calling six fish and he looks at his bag and try’s to take them to the release boat . Well that’s when things changed in my mind. I’m done I’ve said enough . I’ll be at the next AIA tournament April 10th .
