I don't think ethanol is as much to blame as everyone thinks. Small engines are jetted so lean from the factory now that it doesn't take much at all to plug them. Half the time they don't idle right or surge right out of the crate. You can thank the EPA for that.

I agree.  Ethanol isn't the end all issue with fuel.  IMO mtbe(fuel additive) has been increased in fuel and caused most issues.  Ethanols biggest issue is its ability to draw water into fuel and keep it suspended, that and drying out rubber parts not made to be protected from it IMO

I think the biggest is how much the Blunts have made from it, (from a school teacher to a millionaire) go figure.

the ethanol mandates were a great way to make our elected officals rich.

I don't even think I can get ethanol free gas in the immediate area. Anything that won't run happily on whatever swill Pilot is pumping doesn't belong on my place. And oddly enough, I have never once pulled a carb apart on any of my stuff, unless it needed going through before I brought it home.

The station in Humansville is now carrying ethanol free premium. At least that is what it says, ain't cheap though.  Few years back one of the big dogs at LSK in Lebanon said 80% of their mechanic work was a result of bad/poor quality fuel.  Didn't say ethanol just bad fuel.  Thankfully truck and car seem to run on as you said whatever swill they happen to be selling.

So if an automobile or pickup is fine with it, what's the problem with boat motors?

Wait, I gotta guess.  A tank of fuel that sits unused outdoors during winter and early spring on a lift on a lake (or on a trailer under a cover even worse) for oh, say six months or better.  Condensation and so on.

I think you're right on, environment and lack of use. A lot of guys don't use their boats but a few times a year, and they tend to have fairly large gas tanks.

I keep my distance from Humansville, although it seems to be on the rebound. I went to high school there.

4000 extra RPM, no Cat. Converter, lake water for cooling, and lots of aluminum and plastic in order to keep weight down.

Run your truck at 5-6k RPM on poor quality fuel for a few days and see how long before it leaves you stranded.

Most people don't realize that outboard motors are very near the top of the list when it comes to "High Performance" engines.

I don't know of any instances in modern vehicles where fuel contacts rubber/poly diaphragms or hose. Outboard and small engine mfrs should learn that lesson.

I can't dance like I used to.

You're kidding, right?

Fuel cap seals with a rubber O-rings or rubber gasket.

Fuel contacts rubber before it even reaches your fuel tank   (fuel fill nozzle to tank is rubber hose).

The fuel pump itself has rubber in it.

The Fuel pressure regulator contains rubber.

Fuel Injectors have rubber seals inside them, and rubber O-rings that seal them into place.

The schrader valves for testing fuel pressure have rubber within them.

Pretty impossible to have a fuel system, whether carbureted or EFI/DFI without using rubber compounds.
