Ketchup Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Anyone going out tomorrow? I will be out for 1/2 day until we head out to fish. Looks like it may get a bit windy in the afternoon. Johnsfolly 1 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Dutch Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Good luck on both adventures. I can’t think of a place on Stockton where I’d want to be in 40 mph winds.
MOPanfisher Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 My next deer season starts tomorrow. But if history is my teacher I might go set a couple hours and pretent to hunt but will be thinking about spring walleye fishing the whole time. bfishn 1
MrGiggles Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 I did have a couple big boys show up on camera. Dad shot at one with a muzzleloader and missed, I didn't have a tag, and seldom find the time for late archery hunting. I'd attach the full size images but they want a nickle to download them. Everything's a money grab now. I know there was a lot more activity in that plot than I got pictures of, there's no cell reception in the spot that it should be. MDC is rolling out their corn piles and stuff for their CWD culling stuff, I guess I could get one that way if I wanted. I am going to be a little more picky next year, late season hunting over a good food source is just stupid good. Johnsfolly, Daryk Campbell Sr, BilletHead and 2 others 5 -Austin
Ketchup Posted January 16, 2023 Author Posted January 16, 2023 Well, i got out at 7:45 this morning. Didn’t see anything but squirrels. Got out of the blind at noon to go eat. At 1:09 camera sent pictures of 5 does. Got back out at 1:50. Pretty windy so didn’t have much hope as the wind was blowing from my back. At 4:41 i seen movement coming from where they should have been. 5 total came out. 3 went to the north, 1 to the south, and 1 stood at the edge on alert. As i was trying to hit record, and my noisy chair being all loud, i dropped the camera, grabbed the bow that didn’t have an arrow knocked, stuck the arrow in as they grouped back up at the edge. 4 started walking back into the woods as this one hesitated. Let the arrow fly at 38 yards. She never took another step. Piled up right there. After opening her up, couldn’t have gotten a straighter heart shot. This one was pretty special to me. I’m a pretty emotional guy at times. Just as soon as she dropped, i felt a tear drop. A tad over 2 years ago my 32 year old son passed away. We were best buds. He worked full time for me, was my hunting buddy, and we seen each other 6 days a week. Rarely was there a day after work he didn’t give me a hug as we left work, and said “i love you dad”. 3 weeks before he passed away he bought a new bow, and was very excited to get to hunt with it, as his other bow was pretty outdated. Today i shot this deer with the bow my son would have used. As i sat next to this deer, before letting anyone know, so many memories rushed thru my heart. This is one I won’t forget. Took me 2 seasons to even want to open his bow case. nomolites, BilletHead, Quillback and 8 others 10 1 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

Johnsfolly Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 @Ketchup I agree with DJ and Marty on a great hunt but even better sharing the memories of your son on this hunt! If you don't hang up his bow, I hope that you can take a bunch more deer with that bow. Daryk Campbell Sr, Ketchup, JestersHK and 1 other 4
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Wow, sorry for your loss Ketchup. So glad you made the decision to open the case and use the bow. Great shot. Ketchup Posted January 17, 2023 Author Posted January 17, 2023 Really appreciate it guys. Those 15 months or so i went awal from here was a little of a struggle. This past weekend we did a little wall art in the den. The center picture is his last deer he shot 3 seasons ago. Last day of gun season. As we got out of the truck, i snapped a picture of him walking out to his spot, so we stuck that picture below his last deer. The other 2 are me. We will be adding the picture i posted here with his bow, and will attach the arrow i used. Really appreciate the kind words everyone.
