BilletHead Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Anybody on here still hunting bunnies? This morning Pat was out opening the bird feeders. She came in saying there was a possum out there. I grabbed the air rifle and headed out on the back porch to find the critter gone. Something else caught my eye. A pair of cottontails messing around down my shooting range. Well, the shooting bench was right there too so I sat down to give them a try. Got them both each taking a header. Not a problem guessing the range I have bricks every ten yards up to fifty buried in the grass. First one shot at 35 yards and the other at 40. It's been a while since I took a rabbit. Took them directly to the shop hung and dressed them. Sheesh I had forgot how much bigger than they were than the squirrels I have been shooting. There will be braised rabbit with garlic made and waiting for Pat when she gets home this evening. I need to earn my keep. These were adult bunnies thus the braise instead of frying, Gavin, Daryk Campbell Sr, MOPanfisher and 8 others 11 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Daryk Campbell Sr Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 My animals never have any money on them. Yours have jewelry, now cash!! I'm envious of the BilletHeadville wildlife. Quillback Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 If I was a few years younger I would consider getting a beagle and do some rabbit hunting. Sure is nice when they walk out onto your shooting range! Terrierman, BilletHead and Johnsfolly 3

So much easier to dress too 👍. Like opening a Christmas present 🙂 Bunny's just don't last long enough to establish a population around here. Too darn many birds of prey. 🤬 Ryan Miloshewski 1
Ryan Miloshewski Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I went out and walked 2 miles on a CA near me last weekend. I only saw one rabbit and one squirrel--no shots were fired, dude. I love eating both, just usually take opportunistic shots at them while waterfowl hunting. Next year I am going to make it a habit to deer and small game hunt, too. (I say that now). Buttermilk fried rabbit or squirrel dumplings are about the best. I'm jealous.
