Going to purchase my first river boat.  A move has me fishing rivers and flowages almost exclusively now.  Moving from a 18' deep v Lund.  I am from wisconsin and chose this forum because it seems no one up here has any knowledge on the topic-so thanks in advance.

As of now, I've narrowed it down to and 1860 or 2072 CC jon style from Seaark.  Most likely the 2072 fxjt with 140 Suzuki.  The other boat style I am debating Would be a 1860 or 2060/70 legend/blazer/Alweld.

I will be fishing the far northern part of the wisconsin river, which is shallow, rocky, but not overly narrow.  I will also spend some time musky fishing the small lakes and flowages in that area. Usually 3 in the boat.  Also occasional family trips of 4

these types of boats are extremely rare in my neck of the woods, so even getting a look at them has proven difficult.  Any advice would be appreciated .

I would go CC. You’d be standing up which would help with looking for obstructions.

that sounds like a whole lotta motor, but I don’t know the specs on that boat.

look into hull thickness. The Blazers and maybe others are faster because they are running 0.080 hulls. I wanted 0.100 at a minimum.
I run a Alweld 2052 with a much smaller jet. Top end speed doesn’t matter to me as much as running shallow. I need time to see stuff coming and to pick out the run anyway.

good Luck with your boat and I hope it meets your needs

I run a Alweld 2052 that is @Ham waldo twin sister gracie, like wise much smaller motor..  50/25 jet, if enough water to cover top of your shoes it will go with two people.  That said, not sure of the water you are running, big rocks can be brutal on your boat.  I keep a 20' Champion for my lake use, but sure the Alweld could handle quite a bit. I have seen them boys in the pacific northwest run deep v with jets......

I run an 1860 Legend SS vbass and love it. Several buddies have Alwelds and they very nice as well. If you're running areas with a lot of "can opener" boulders then you may want to look in to something with a thicker bottom. Most of those setups come with inboards though and cost a lot more.

Boats like mine can take gravel strikes all day, but it doesn't take much of a rock to open one up. Ask me how I know....

I started out with an express 1650 with a 60/40 mercury jet with a tiller. I graduated to an 1860 with  console with a bigger motor… If I had it all to do over again, I would go back to the 1650 tiller. Too many reasons to list.

you might want to think about a life jacket

How many people do you know that actually wear a life jacket when running their boat? I can't think of a single person who actually wears one except when required for tournaments.

I love my boat, but I am constantly on the lookout for a small rig like what you used to have. Boats a tool like anything and there are many times when I wish I had that smaller boat.

I have to have 3 (canoe, Jon boat, Bassboat)   Plus a couple pairs of waders.

I love all kinds of fishing.
