I know it's so horrible working for someone else, I guess that's why so few people do it. Most of my people would rather work for me than do something like that. I don't think working harder and taking a pay cut is a good reason for working for yourself. I’m sorry but I don’t agree with that. Plenty of “real money” is made in the corporate sector. Plenty. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

The way I see it, it is a huge gamble otherwise. So many companies go tits-up, or eventually sell out and the guys/gals that actually made the company what it is/was... get the shaft. The marina owner that I started in this business with made the bad mistake of leaving me to run the place while he and his bride went on an extended vacation. At that time I got to experience the actual income the place was pulling in, and then it dawned on me that I WAS the one doing most all of the actual work. I realized that even if I had 1/10th of the clientele that they had, that I would be making 5 times more money....and would get to call my own shots. I hung in there for 15 more months....and then started my own business. Never regretted it for even a second. snagged in outlet 3, Daryk Campbell Sr and Terrierman 3

I run/ran my own insurance agency, but, I just can't make it om that alone. I am 90% out of the game, working a 40 m-f job, and loving the stress free lifestyle myself. I quit the highest paying most enjoyable job I ever had (Environmental Department for Union Electric) to start my own business on the strength of one contract to prepare an Operation and Maintenance Manual for Collier County FL. On the face of it, a dumb move, took me five years or more to be making the same money as what I left behind. Lots more hours and stress but in the end it all worked out darned well. I'll leave out all the bloody details. One thing about being a player in the world of big business is you better like big cities and travelling. I got totally sick of both. snagged in outlet 3 1

I know a lot of people, men and women, who rake in the corporate sector. I was fortunate to work for a start up tech company that gave us stock options. It worked out well for me. People who have an equity stake in a company are motivated to do good work. If you own part of the business and profit when the business does well, that is one heck of a motivation. Microsoft was one of our customers back in 1989. That is when they first released Windows. I know quite a few people that were working for MS then. They made a lot of money from MS stock. They all worked for it, 12-14 hour days, and that's what motivated them. The sales reps for that company I worked for raked it in. Million dollar systems, 4 percent commission with kickers, plus add on sales with commissions. We had such good stuff in our niche that sometimes all the sales reps had to do was answer the phone and take the order. That wasn't true all the time as we would also have some epic sales battles with our competitors. Best gig out there is to be a motivational speaker. We'd bring in one every year at our annual sales conference. They'd get $10K plus expenses for a one hour speech. And these are what I'd call mid-level types, really good and famous speakers can get $100K easily. Of course you've got to be really good at it and there is a lot of competition, but what a gig!
