  2. 1st - Kbilb (Keith Blais) 2.9 2nd - Darrencombs 2.1 3rd - Pour Dennis (Dennis Hamer) 1.9 4th - Brad Gilley 1.7 We heard of quite a few people who caught keeper bass and didn't bring them in (thinking they wouldn't win...). Don't do that again!! We gave out prizes to all 4 anglers who weighed fish because we had so many prizes donated.

  4. Thanks to all that organized todays event. While the fishing was trying, the chance to meet a number of the OA folks was great. And I ate enough food for two! Look forward to the next effort.

    What's Cooking?

I saw whole pork tenderloins at 1.99 yesterday, which I thought sounded pretty good. I don't need that much meat though. Hard to pick up beef when pork is 1/2 to 1/3 the price.

  8. Fished yesterday in zone 2 and caught 15 fish in the afternoon. Nothing big but for the first time I caught fish using 3 different methods in one day. First, free drifting a white or pink glo ball. Then, stripping a brown wooly bugger and then later in the day I put on a Renegade to dry fly fish. Had fun!

  15. Great video Phil! Here's a couple of still shots. Things really came together yesterday, Phil and Bill brought a ton of food, really good food I might add. Bill's wife Becky made a great chili mac, best I ever had. RPS made some mean wings. Donna's potato salad was great and the big bucket of it that she brought emptied out fast. When I got there at 0630, Robert (Muddy Water) already had a canvas overhead set up that kept us dry through the morning rain, and thanks to his wife Karen for her help also. Some great deserts were contributed, thanks to all of you that added to the buffet! And thanks Ketchup and his wife for bringing some fold-out tables - they were needed to set up all that food! Thanks to Bo (Nutech), Dave (Dtrs5kprs) and the folks from Lew's for the great tackle gifts. And I believe Phil put Duckydoty in charge of providing the trophy. Very nice looking trophy, and congrats to Kbilb for the win! As far as the fishing: The water was on the rise the whole day, came up over a foot on Saturday alone. Reports were that the backs of the coves were fairly muddied up from runoff. Quite a bit of small debris in the water. Steady rain throughout much of the morning. I heard water temps were around 46-47 degrees. Most of the folks reported anywhere from 5 -10 fish caught, with a keeper or two on average, Big fish were tough to come by. I heard of fish being caught on Jerk baits, jigs, the Ned, and a couple of Wart fish.

  16. i had a great time and met alot of people i'd talked to on here for almost 5 years that was the most important part for me. fishing was tough for us but dblades and i had a blast anyhows. i was surprised the water wasnt a couple degrees warmer but i still think those fish are gonna make a move out of the abyss anytime now. i actually think from what i read first of the week that the muddy run off and weak cold front pushed them a little deeper. i marked alot of fish suspended tight in the pole timber and cedars at 40 plus fow. i want to thank everyone involved in putting on such a nice event and thnx for such a great dinner i stuffed myself on chicken and donna's tator salad. i hope we do this again soon. we'll it was a pleasure getting back on the rock but have to get on the road back to stockton and reeves bros tourney this morning at 8:00am. lets do this again it soon!!!!!!

    Cant decide

Is the predator one of those square pontoonish things? They're nice but not very light or versatile. I think you'll get a lot more use out of a kayak.

    What's Cooking?

Who doesn't love St. Patrick's Day? I always fix an Irish thing or two -- one of our favorites is Beef and Guinness Stew. And, away we go: Chuck roast, potato, onion, parsnip, carrot, garlic, crushed rosemary, thyme, bay leaf beef base, tomato paste and Guinness. You know the drill -- cut the beef into bite-sized pieces, add a little vegetable oil to a Dutch oven and brown in batches over medium-high heat. Set aside. That right there is what the French call fond. It tastes good. Add the onion and stir. I usually add a little water to help loosen the fond. Then in goes the tomato paste. (I buy a can, partially freeze it, remove both ends, push it out, cut into ½-inch slices and freeze. One slice is about right for this). Add the garlic right before the end of this step: Add the spices, beef base, bay leaves, Guinness and water. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce to a simmer. Find something to do for the next hour. After an hour, cut the veggies into chunks and add to the stew. Cover and simmer another 30-45 minutes -- until the veggies are cooked to your liking. Hit it with some parsley and eat it. A couple things I also do, but they aren't mandatory: Dissolve one packet of gelatin in a ¼ cup of water. Add it to the stew, and simmer another minute or two. Taste for seasoning -- sometimes I'll add a little brown sugar. Now go watch The Quiet Man!choose files... Click to choose files

  21. Fished there this evening. Water level is still low but there was a pretty good current this evening. I head that people were catching them there the last few days but no one was catching any tonight. The water was very dirty and full of debris.

  26. I fishing Turnback this morning trolling & casting for whites. Ended up picking up a decent mess of crappie before the north wind shut them down around 10am. Also aught a couple big sow whites, and one channel cat of all things. No walleye, but a good mess of fish for supper. Tried shad raps, sassy shad, rooster tails, but every single fish came off a 1/8 chartruese road runner head with a white auger tail gub. The crappie were suspended over timber along channel edges about 10 foot down. Water temp read 52.

  30. Oneshot, if you are insistent on fishing right on the park/river line then you might as well get a $3 tag, or eventually it's going to cost you 75.00 plus court cost, and somebody with a badge is gonna show up at your place someday to check your freezer.

  32. Just don't throw them on the bank and leave em. As a guy who enjoys fly fishing for (and releasing) common carp there is nothing that gets under my skin more than going down to my favorite backwater flat and seeing fish with big holes through them laying up on the shore. If you shoot them legally and eat them...fine by me. If you're on my lake and I see you throwing them on the bank I'll be calling the warden and trying to get you a nice big ticket for wanton waste. Good on ya for at least trying...but if you can't find a valid use for them you probably shouldn't be shooting them.

Ya smallie your right. We should never take a kid gigging because they MIGHT accidentally gig a game fish. And we should never take them hunting either because they Might make a pore shot and wound an animal. Let's just keep them inside playing video games.

Sure, ban gigging because one boat out of 100 poaches illegal fish. Better outlaw all forms of hunting and fishing while we're at it since there are poachers involved with those as well. That would only be fair since I am sure there have been WAY more instances of over harvesting with a rod and reel than with a gig pole. Punishing the good majority for the bad minority is stupid. Even if gigging was banned, my bet is the poachers would still be out doing it. They are already breaking the law so what is to stop them from breaking a different law?
