  1. I'm in.

I have only missed one, I think, since it started.

Never cashed a check, went to the stage one time.

Hoping this year I can run into something worth taking to the stage. I love shallow fishing and am hoping I'll find one that's moving up in the back of a creek somewhere 🙂

Since the Hogs seem to have captured a little lightning in a bottle thai year with their new coach, I am going to try and bring a little good fortune with me:

I launched at Indian Creek today (I like that ramp), but fished part of the morning quite a ways from the launch in one of the big arms, well started there and worked my way back.  Went into the very back of that big arm and dropped the TM about 400 yards from the very back, I have fished this area a few times over the years and was thinking I might find some black bass pulled up in there in pre-spawn mode.

As I started, I kept seeing some top water activity in the shallow water in the back, it wasn't a feeding frenzy but it was enough for me to stand on the troller and get back there.  Started tossing a 3.3 keitech and slow rolling it, and quickly caught a 19" walleye.  Caught a couple of white bass too.

Then the something happened that was the best part of the morning, I had swam the Keitech close to the boat, looked down at it and could see a big fish swimming after it - usually when that happens, I get excited and yank the bait away from the fish, but today my brain was working and I killed that bait.  Bang!, that fish made that Keitech disappear, and I could see that it was about a 10 lb. striper.  Now I was throwing it on a spinning rod with 6 lb. leader, so wasn't much I could do but hang on and follow that fish around.  Had it on for about 30 seconds and the hook just pulled out, and I wasn't that disappointed it got off as I had no plans to keep it, and was happy enough seeing that fish come to the boat and grab that swim bait.

That was the end of any sizeable fish catching for me in that location, caught a few small bass, and several hand sized whites.

Started working my way back to the launch fishing points, picked up a few more small bass and 2 more keeper walleye, one of the walleye on a Ned rig, and another on a Keitech.

I was about done for the day, but a south wind had started to blow a little and I have a point halfway back in Indian that can sometimes fish well with that wind blowing into it.  2nd cast with a Ned and I hooked a 4 lb. or so striper.  Again on 6 lb. test so that fish gave me a run for my money, but in the end I was able to boat it.  Made a few more casts and headed for the barn.

Lots of boats on the lake when I left at noon, mix of fisherman and recreational types.  WT 59-60.

Some fish pics: (Walleye are skinny spawned out fish)

Got me beat, as usual... I had a handful of smaller fish. Put in at Prairie at daylight and fished the cove across from Copper Mine almost all day. I did have one interesting moment. I skipped a fluke past a tree, and it disappeared with a swirl and no splash. I don't know about up here, but on the St John's River that usually means it's a big girl "sipping tea", as my cousin calls it. Anyway, was no big girl, was a little fella that managed to stick himself to the bait and the bush at the same time. I had to stop, while reeling in, and take his photo just because, well, how many times do we see a fish eat a bait and a bush??

Good luck buddy, I'll be interested to hear how you do.

Well..... I caught a handful of lil guys.

All in 5' or less. 3 or 4 on a shaky head / brush hog and the others on a drop shot. All but one came out of the same culvert down by my house. Water got up to 63° by the end of the day. One more vacation day tomorrow. I think I'll put in at Prairie Creek tomorrow.

  4. Finally got out for a couple hours yesterday in the river by the house. Lost three on a buzz bait (black) in 3' or less. Water on the white is really brown and warm: 59.5°-61°.

I planned vacation for today and tomorrow. Hoping I picked the right two days, as I am about to hear back to the same spot today and see if I can keep any stuck all the way to the boat.

I'm assuming that there will be one this year.  I don't fish it, but if anyone does and hears the results, please post them.  I'm always interested in seeing how well the winner does.

Yes sir I plan on it.

    Pay at ramp  ($75).

    7:00-3:00

    Arigs allowed.

Flyers at HLS / South town

I am just donating - I have one fish the last three trips. But it beats working

  6. I had 4 that went (according to the scale in the tow boat) 10.70.

Thought I had a shot to place when leaving for my last spot with about a half hour to go - and then the #1 cylinder developed a new hole in a split second....

My buddy that helped tow me to a ramp in Rambo then back to Prairie to get truck / trailer had a scale so we weighed and released.

Retarded to do one opposite of the other. Do you hold your fork in the right hand to eat meat, and the left hand to eat veggies?

Fork in right hand unless the meal is something (steak, for example) that necessitates a knife.

At which point knife in right hand and fork in left.

(I do use left retrieve for spin cast and right for baitcast).

This discussion reminds me of a story and warning to not overthink things.

The whole town gathered at the square one Saturday afternoon. Seems Mr. Hodges' beard had finally grown long enough that the fella from the Guinness Book of World Records was coming to measure and possibly award a world record.

After all was said and done, Mr. Hodges did in fact have the longest beard.

At the conclusion of the press conference, a final call was made to ask if anyone had anything else to ask..

One little boy stuck up his hand and asked : "Do you sleep with your beard under or on top of the covers?"

Mr. Hodges said he wasn't sure, but that he'd let the little boy know once he decided..

Mr. Hodges never got another good night of sleep....

This^^^ We fished the little derby out of Cape Fair last Wednesday and started the day with 4 bags of ice in the well, stopped along the way and bought 3 more.  All of our fish wire lively, but we checked them religiously all day.  I can promise you, that I'd at least eat the spots if I did that though.

I bought some live well lid vents a couple of years ago, and now practically beg others to get a set when we are visiting before and after trips.

May be several versions out there, I don't know - and I am certainly not advertising for these in particular.

Just wanted to give an idea.

No more ice, the air flow takes care of everything.

  9. I am not a good fisherman, and I caught 6 Saturday. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they must be eating lol!

    1. Beaver Shores in 5' from some flooded brush on a yellow square bill. this was around 9:45 Saturday morning (4-21-18). This particular girl was awfully white - not sure if that's because of the muddy water (it's awfully muddy around that part of the lake) or if she'd just come up from the deeper water. My hand help scale put her around 2.5 pounds, of course that's an uncertified scale. 15" spot.

    2. Ford's Creek in 5' in front of flooded brush PB&J 3/8 jig 2:03pm - 13" spot

    3. Ford's Creek 20' along the channel - red/orange Storm Deep diving crankbait (can't remember exact name - it's the one with the funky line tie that has a gap in the lip)  2:34pm -13" spot

    4. Ford's Creek 5' out in front of flooded brush PB&J colored lizard on a wobble head - 3:12pm - 16" spot

    5. Ford's Creek same deep diving crankbait between trees in 20' of water (I am starting to understand why folks like deep diving crankbaits)3:48pm 13" spot

    6. Ford's Creek in front of flooded brush about 5' water 4:21pm 14" (maybe could've coaxed him to 15") smallie

    That's all I know.

Seriously, I am not a good angler - if I can catch 6, most of the folks on here can likely catch 20.

Water temps in Beaver Shores were 56-67 if I remember correctly and 52-54 in Ford's Creek.

The times seem very exact because I looked at the time stamps of pictures (I try to send pictures to my 9 year old princess no matter the size) taken Saturday.

Tight lines everyone, go have some fun while they are eating!

    Joe.
