I got out on Sunfish Lake on Sunday with the Mopar Vessel.  I had hooked into something large the last time, there while in my cedar-stripper and I fished the same cove for more than an hour throwing a tandem spinner bait, buzz bait, the Ned-Rig and a wiggle wart with no success.  I switched to an inline spinner and he hit it.  It was a fight on that spinning outfit.

I hadn't caught a crappie in a couple of months, almost forgot what they look like so I went to Unger Park yesterday to see if I could find some. The lake is loaded with small bass under 6" that hit every jig I tried. I caught several bluegill that were bigger than the bass. Finally, found some crappie and ended up catching five. All were eater size, 10-13 inches but I released them. IMG_1447.JPGIMG_1449.JPGIMG_1452.JPG

Nice! I bet that thing got restocked with the latest round of flooding this year.  It was full of asian carp when I took my kayak there a couple years ago.

Crappie do well in Unger. Don’t know why but would never eat any of them. Tons of mercury and heavy metals in the L Meramec.

I went again yesterday to Unger and had a better day than I did last Friday. Same area I found them last time but they didn't start biting until the sun came out. Only caught a couple crappie, small bass and even some little white bass until I tried a little pillhead spin that I make. It definitely was the magic color for the day. Everything was released. Lake was up a foot from last week from the rain and appeared to be still rising. I had four of them but lost three to brush and trees so when I got home I poured, painted and tied more up. Going again tomorrow if anyone wants to stop by and say hello.IMG_1459.JPGIMG_1462.JPGIMG_0883.JPGIMG_0884.JPGIMG_0885.JPG

You like the light tackle stuff you should see my neighbor. We often fish together for everything from a crappie to Hybrids. I have seen him catch big crappie, Bass to 5lbs and a 8lb hybrid last year and never use anything bigger than his favorite 6 ft crappie rods.
