Precious things like our health, food on the table, a roof over our heads, family and friends, and most of all, a Savior. Even within my own family, it irks me a bit that the Thanksgiving meal discussion at some point always seems to turn to who is going to be in line at 10 p.m. at Best Buy, Walmart or whatever retail giant is opening its doors at midnight Thursday night. Just seems like an oxymoron for folks to be pushing and shoving, even in rare cases coming to blows, in order to snatch up whatever "great deals" are being offered on Thanksgiving Day. It's a day to be thankful, not greedy! Can't the tomfoolery wait just ONE DAY? Well put. So you saved $300 on a TV that you waited for 24 hours, away from family in cold/elements in a line long with other degenerates to get? Is that worth the time spent with family, having laughs, good food, a few seasonal beers and passing out on the couch watching football? Not to me. Gavin, Champ188 and Hammer time 3
Flysmallie Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Well said Champ. I don't go to the store on Thanksgiving. I don't go anywhere. You can be open all you want but I won't be there. And I sure as hell won't be doing any Black Friday shopping. Don't you people that do shop Black Friday feel a bit like peasants? "Oh look the good king has knocked $300 dollars off that TV for us on this one day. We will be like gladiators and fight for our right to purchase that garbage." You guys have fun with that. I'm going to pass. American greed sucks. Champ188, fishinwrench, Gavin and 2 others 5
Old plug Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving. It's a good time to be with family. I Will be in Herman Mo at my daughters home on a hilltop overlooking Herman. We will be celebrating with our a family and my daughter in laws family. We have a closer relationship than most in laws. Greasy B Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Big box retail is the dark under belly of angling. If you want to save a buck I recommend you don't shop at all. Acumulating more stuff is just a distraction from what is really important in the outdoor experience. Thanksgiving is a big deal at our home, I wouldn't miss a minute of it unless my life depended on it. After dinner everyone pitches in to clean up while me and the brother load up for our traditional three day fishing trip. Happy thanksgivaweenmas to all. Gavin Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 You guys are right on...No Black Friday at our house...Heck, we are headed to the river on Thursday...Stuck in town Wednesday or we would leave then.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Me too. My wife lets me bail out from the In-laws on Friday morning. Usually go to Taney but I might switch it up this year. Just want to go somewhere with some trout. Pete
mjk86 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Yeah!!! BPS!! I hate those guys! The nerve they have being open on thanksgiving, and being as greedy as possible....why would a company do that?! Much rather shop cabelas, or tackle warehouse companies that are somehow more righteous ...oh wait.....Meanwhile...lets all go get some more plastic forks from walmart and vote to lower the taxes old "johnny boy" and the rest of the ultra rich have to pay. This paradox baffles me to know end. Greasy B and cheesemaster 2
fishinwrench Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Tackle Warehouse is on my S#it list. Sloooooow Shipping ! I'd rather pay the shipping and get my stuff sooner. Seriously, by the time the stuff gets here I won't need it anymore.
MOPanfisher Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 It is not a new thing for the concept of greed. Has been around a long time. The black Friday sales and being open on Thanksgiving is very subjective I know people who treat black Friday and even thanksgiving day sales like opening day of deer season, turkey season and trout season all rolled into one. I for one will likely be napping, cutting wood or maybe loading ammo thanksgiving afternoon and back to work on Friday there is nothing at those sales that interests me that much, but for others it does. I couldn't care less about professional sports but some folks live for NFL, NBA and MLB. And remember if it weren't profitable the stores wouldn't be opening Thanksgiving day.
