Nope it was a small stand of spring flowers. They were up a weeks ahead of others in the area. It showed that stretch was getting more warm daily sun than any other other place in the area. By evening the crappie were there in the warmth. I do not fish with Wrench but we talk back and forth a lot about our experiences. I think a lot of fishermen Should learn to read Mother Nature kind of things. I know I do.

Sure enough.  The water temp guage didn't pick up on it, but all you had to do was cruise down the lake and look for any flowers up on the bank.   If there was stuff blooming then there would be crappie up shallow on the bank there (nice ones too).   Once you were out of sight of the little flowers you couldn't get a bite. Not up shallow anyway.   Didn't matter if it was chunk rock, pea gravel, or whatever, there just needed to be a flower or two on the hillside.

Never figured you for a flower child.

I think in spite of all our electronics, natural observation and experience were still going to get fooled unless we sort of stumble onto it. I went out evening before last for the first time in about for the time in months. Of course I went to a area I thought there would be fish. I got some small fish plus 4,keepers in a little over 2-3 hours. The fish were all about 15 to 18 ft. I was so tickled pink I went back the last evening with weather and lake conditions almost identical. Fished the same type places, using the same thing, during what was the prime bite period. Well I caught plenty of smaller  fish where they were on the evening before but did not get a smell of a keeper. Then I pitched my lure into a really deep spot. Not base on any great wisdom, electronics or anything else other than boredom. Right away I caught my first keeper. He was sitting down there in 27ft of water. I caught 2 more and a few shorts deep before I stopped. Every one of the better fish came from around 23-25 ft. About 10 deeper than they were  24hrs ago. Just shows how easy we get fooled.

Sometimes it seems like everything is in your gavor, weather, eater conditions, good reports and still can't catch a cold.  Other times everything seems to be against you except you have the opportunity and desire to go, expecting little but a  few hours in the water, and that time you whack em good.  What fun it be if you knew every time what was gonna happen.

Electronics advancements aside . . . . you take this BaitCloud invention combined with the RocketFisherman invention and I'm truly worried that technology will ruin our beloved pastime once and for all.  Don't forget the huge devastation that the Banjo Minnow caused -- it took a decade for fish populations to recover and for sport-fish to develop a natural resistance to its seductive charms.  But this I fear, could be the end of fishing as we know it . . . especially that corn-flavored ball. vThrow a couple dozen of those out in the trophy area at Taney, when it is having a low-DO period in the fall and watch out!
