This is strictly hearsay, but I have now gotten it from 3 sources that there is a very good Jaw bite from Long Creek to Kimberling City.  This has been a jerkbait bite on both Megabass and Spro.  Best bait has been the Pro Blue Megabass or Blue Bandit Spro.

Bite is right where you think it should be.  Channel bank, transition chunk to gravel and gravel pts. in the major coves and creek mouths. Fish seem to be either on the bottom or suspended in the 15' range.  Put the boat a full cast from the bank and they seem to be 1/2 way back.  About a 15 to 20 second pause and just turn its head.

As I said this is hearsay, but I'm thinking there may be something to it.

Good Luck

Mouth of schooner creek down to the bridge.  And steep side of point 7.  Xraps  in scoop color are killer (or jerkbait of choice).  The 110+1 hits the best depth if your willing to pay for it...if not...find knockoff blanks and paint em yourself.  Other baits work well too.  I tie up 3/32 Oz 4-6 inch bucktail/hackle jigs in shad flavor.  Same boat position as mentioned above.  Let it sink to the bottom.  Shake it.  Then slow lift and drop back to the boat, make sure to shake the rod tip a little bit when it hits the bottom.

Try this and see what happens! :)  go get em!

Never heard of a "rock roller". Could he be saying a rock crawler? That is a crankbait made by SPRO. If not maybe he is just talking about a bottom bait with a soft plastic on it. Chompers has the "rock walker" jig that a lot of guys throw with a hula grub. Possibly it could be that.

Probably this, but he is using live bait. It is a chub like fish with a very tough lower lip, which is perfect for a hook and will usually stay in good shape after multiple hook ups. My uncle uses these on a texas rig, they are a pretty large bait. I have a picture of an over 20" smallmouth that his daughter caught on said rig this year.

I would post the picture, but I don't have permission.

Live-baiting for smallmouth? Dare I ask if he is releasing them?
