slothman Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I've never had costas, mj, solar bat, or Wiley x, but I have a pair or Natives that I like pretty well. They are polycarbonate lenses that are interchangeable and they came with another set of lenses. I've been wearing them for well over 3 years and I'm still quite happy with them.
bobby b. Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I've always had cheap (Walmart shades) but have heard really good thing about the expensive ones so after reading this thread one I went on Amazon and the Costa ____ were all about $115 from this one company except for this one particular style which were $11.98 plus shipping so being the cheap person that I am, I bought them - will let you know when I get them - I'm thinking Amazon does not sell knock offs but what the heck.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Ive always wondered if i would be able to tell the difference in cheap or expensive ones. I bought a cheap $14 pair at walmart the other day that are some Jimmy Houston deal and on the inside of the arms it says Solar Bat.
fishinwrench Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I was given 2 pair of SolarBat back when a local pro had them as a sponsor. To me they seemed about in the same class as the cheap 15.00 stuff, they just came with a cool case to put them in. I gave them to a friend that thought they were the bomb because the style just wasn't me. IMO if you want good polarization then they are going to be a bit cloudy (less clear) that's just the nature of the beast. The expensive pairs that I've had (still have them, just don't wear them... actually my daughter has stolen them) might be a bit clearer but they offer less scanning ability. What I mean by that is that if I focus on one object underwater I can see it fine, but if I am scanning the water for fish, shad schools, or for beds in 4-6ft then it's harder to find them. With my cheapies I feel like I can spot them right away from a greater distance. Plus the cheapies are lighter and available in more styles that appeal to me.
m&m Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I wear glasses and have to buy sunglasses that fit over my glasses. Can't wear contacts. So I have the cocoons from BPS in both the brown and black lense. They work for me $49. But then again I've never worn a pair of expensive ones because I can't find a company that makes them to fit over regular glasses. I probably should get a pair of prescription ones but dang they are really expensive. This year has been tough because TRL lost some clarity making it harder to see into the water. Mike Bass Yakker 1
96 CHAMP Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I Bought a pair of prescription costa in the polycarbonate lense, green mirror. Very nice, not cheap by any means Champ188 1
moguy1973 Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 I had a pair of Maui Jim's that I had found when I was fishing in North Carolina once. Awesome sunglasses. Super light and they were super clear. I wouldn't have bought them though since they sell for over 2 bills. They ended up breaking where the lens meets the nose rest. I just use cheaper glasses now although I do have a pair of Revo's that I bought from Sam's on sale for like $25 a couple years ago and those are $125 glasses. They have a lens that has been popping out lately though so I am in the market for another decent pair. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
snagged in outlet 3 Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Maui's run high and wait till you see the cost to get prescriptions in them. $300 for the glasses and then another $400 for RX. I passed.

I passed. Yep. After years of hem hawing I broke down an ordered prescription Oakelys. The cost was sobering, if I can keep from dropping them in the river I think it will be worth it.
