fishinwrench Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 I throw Lucky Craft 78 and 100 Pointers, and Smithwick Spoonbill Rogues. Line is either 10 or 12 P-Line CX Premium. (10 for the 78 Pointer) The best jerkbait fisherman I know uses the same, but he uses med-heavy spinning gear.
Guest Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 I’ve been throwing a predator bass bait, KO of the MB110. You have to put mustad KVD trebles on it but it won’t suspend right unless I put #6 spin tech on the tail. It’s a really good bait once you get the hook configuration figured out. Ive caught a lotta fish on the menendez era Rogues but they don’t throw as well as modern jerkbaits. ive caught a few on the lucky craft but haven’t tried the others. the deep divers are new to me, not sure when to break them out

Or anytime you are fishing behind someone throwing a standard jerkbait. They are a good choice not because they go deeper but moreso because they have a more radical thump. It's hard to find "deep diving" jerkbaits that suspended horizontally flat. The ones that suspend with their nose down are worthless. Sore Thumbs 1

Jerry Rapp Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 there is way too much analysis done in trying to explain the thought process of a fish with a pea sized brain. But carp are much smarter than bass. snagged in outlet 3, bobby b. and Royal Blue 1 2
Old plug Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 I go along with the spinning gear. But at the same time I do not like to throw rogus with it. They will foul a lot on spinning rods. they float thru the air a bit much to suit me on spinning gear with the loosr line. Rarely use any of them them the past few years.
Smithvillesteve Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Merry Christmas to all you boys! I had never caught a fish on a jerkbait until last year. I really wanted to devote some time to it. I posted last year that i was in the market for a jerkbait rod. I really wanted to come down and buy that Falcon Cara from Bill Babler. I just didnt have the time. Champ had claimed, "it will be the best rod you own." Anyway i ended up buying the Lew's jerkbait rod. And i like it a lot. Handle not too long, soft tip, short enough to jerk and not bang into the side of my boat. I have Abu Garcia Revo STX on most of my rods. I have used mono for jerkbaits but i am thinking about going to floro. Most of the elites use floro according to an article in BassBlaster the other day. Anyway, i had enough success on the jerkbait last year that i have gained a new confidence in throwing it. Caught several nice bass on it. I like the Megabass but actually caught quite a few on a Rapala Deep Jerk. Lots of good info on here boys. Have a Happy New Year!! Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Gavin Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Mega 110's go nose down others suspend horizontally. It does make a difference sometimes. Like flat suspenders mostly. 8 baits should cover spectrum.
