Dutch Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 No I am not positive. I got my information from an MDC research biologist who was doing a 10 year study on white bass. We were discussing how fast the growth rate was on Table Rock and Bull Shoals compared to Stockton. He said it all had to do with groceries. He said threadfin can not survive in the waters north of Springfield because they get too cold in the winter. BilletHead 1

We want his opinion on the shad dilemma. As far as MDC goes we know what he thinks about this. All i can figure is he is catching up on much needed sleep or out shooting his bb oops I mean pellet springer rifle , BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Gavin Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Think that shad die off in mass when the temperature drops quickly. If it drops slowly they can acclimate to some extent.
Longball22 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 This appears to support Gavin's claim, but refers to Gizzard shad and not Threadfin: http://www.in-fisherman.com/biology/science-of-shad-winterkill/

bfishn Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Some years gizzard shad spawn multiple times, creating 'baby' gizzard shad in the fall. It's pretty hard to tell a 1-1/2" gizzard shad from a 1-1/2" threadfin. I can't dance like I used to.
