Flysmallie Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 I have always felt that way. My little sister and I go round and round about her not letting her son have a dog. They got him a fish instead. A fish? Really? She had dogs when she was growing up. His dad had dogs too. But they are much too busy being uppity to own a dog I guess. Nine years ago my middle daughter wanted her own dog. We had a dog but she wanted her own. She saved up her money, sold drinks and snacks at garage sales, sold some of her toys, until she had enough money to rescue a dog. Her dog. Funny how her dog became my dog over time and was the best dog I not only ever owned but also the best dog that I ever met. She let me do stupid things to her. She loved car rides. And getting ice cream. But last night I took her on her final ride home. Going to miss that one. And I'm getting really tired of cancer But I still think everyone deserves a dog. And there is no place better to get one than from a shelter. If you think you deserve a dog then let me suggest: Quote The Willard Middle School “Pets of Willard” action class is going to be hosting an adoption day at the Humane Society this Saturday, February the 17th from 12-6 pm. We have been making pet beds, dog and cat toys, and pet treat cookbooks to be given out on a first come-first serve basis when a pet is adopted. Come support their hard work! If you are interested in getting a new pet for your home, Saturday is the day to do it! (3161 West Norton Road, Springfield, MO 65803) timinmo, MoCarp, terryj1024 and 11 others 9 2 3

Seth Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Sorry to hear this. I always get a knot in my throat and have hold back tears when I hear of somebody losing such an amazing animal. We lost the most amazing dachshund a few years ago at the age of 12 and it was really hard. We now have two other dachshunds and I love them to pieces,, but they still ain't no Darla. fishinwrench Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Dang! Sorry Ronnie I'm over-protective of my crooked headed numbskull for selfish reasons. The heartache of loosing a hound is more than I'm prepared to deal with. Flysmallie, Deadstream and cracklebak 3
shrapnel Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 I've had several in my life, but I'm done with them inside. The messes they create and the money they cost me wasn't really worth it looking back, mostly had labs. Let's not even talk about the hair in the carpet, vents, blankets, food....etc! When this ones gone we are done with animals in the house, already making the switch to hard floors and sweeping / vacuuming daily in the new place. Here lately she decided to start smelling like Doritos? Been to the groomer for shampoo and shave, that helped for a week at best. I can't imagine what carpet holds. But, sorry for your loss! Stein Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 I've had several over the years growing up and lost the last two labs - one pup and one rescue about 2 and 3 years ago. Miss them a lot to this day but we aren't going to get another. With us going into retirement and traveling back and forth so much from AR to NE and traveling in general I don't want to get involved again as it is a commitment to do it right and I don't think I will be able to devote the time that they deserve. Sorry for your loss. People that don't have dogs just won't "get it". Flysmallie and MoCarp 2

We have a 17 year old weiner dawg that's not going to make it much longer either. She's been a good dog too but it won't bother me with her. Also have another dachshund that is 4 or 5 years old. We aren't really sure on her age since she was a rescue. And we are pretty sure she must have ate some paint chips when she was younger. Seth 1
BilletHead Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Just like others We are truly sorry Ronnie. How old was she? Sadie is 13 and I see changes daily now. Now and again I think what am I going to do without her. My daily friend. Today the Mrs. and I did a little over two miles on a walking trail around a county lake. Sadie off leash just poking around as we walked. I told Pat she still does pretty good but could go by heart failure just walking with us. Man she got mad and said don't talk like that. I just said it will happen . oneshot Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 So sorry for your Loss. Our Son asked if we would keep his Dog until his House sold. We had this Dog two years. His wife hated this Dog. Our Son says soon as he built a Fence he would get the Dog. I told him nope the Dog is now mine. oneshot terryj1024, timinmo and Deadstream 3
JestersHK Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Sorry for your loss. I like dogs better than most people... Even my daughter's current dog a little Chihuahua is glued to me at all times. Best little rescue dog ever. She's 8 now but it's gonna destroy my girls when we have to put her down. Don't forget cats too... I know most are jerks, but I lost mine this past Xmas Eve. She was 16 and the wife and I's first pet. My little girl before I had little girls. Died in my oldest daughters arms and I buried her in the snow the night before Christmas... That one still hurts.
