MDC regulations are the bare minimum, they recognize that tournaments mean $$ in local economies and if yiu don't think that plays BIG you aren't paying attention.  Any tournament group is free to put additional restrictions upon their tournament participants.  I have expected to see restrictions during the spawn time, but it may not happen for the same reason I noted above $.  Tournaments are as individual as fishermen, there are bad ones, good ones and great ones.

Bass are very adaptable, so what all this moving around is doing is it is creating a growing population of Largemouth bass that act more like stripers now.  That's the way they learn to feed now since a good portion of them are always lost.    They have way different habits than typical home range bass (or pond bass) that know where they are and haven't been relocated 3-10 times in their life.

Bass that used to be basically shallow water, cover oriented, ambush feeders, are now pilagic open water roamers chasing schools of shad.

Last year during late Summer-early Fall the bass bite was rediculously tough up here in the Gravois.  I hadn't caught a fish over 3lbs. in a long time.....but the crappie guys out trolling crankbaits over 30-40 foot of water were getting sick of catching 5 pounders.     Now I don't care who you are or what lakes you fish, that is just not how you fish for Largemouth bass.  Those fish were all out there because they hadn't established a new home territory yet after being caught and removed from their comfy cozy familiar home.    And the sad thing is that once they do reestablish a new home range, they'll invariably bite the wrong thing and back to PB2 or Alhonna they'll go.

Yep, I have always thought about why those bass stay deep all summer and I think Wrench has a good idea on that.  Lot of pressure on obvious shallow spots too, those bass see a lot of baits.

I am old and bass fish 3or4 days in Sept Oct. when the buzzbait bite is on love the buzzbait. I crappie fish quite a lot and never keep a largemouth bass but if I am wanting fish for dinner and only have 2or 3 crappie I may keep a ky once in a while. Now I will stir the pot a little, if there are so many bass now days why do the bass guys get so upset when people keep a 5lb. LM or any LM for that matter? The same MDC that lets you guys cull is the one that says we can keep a limit of bass. Also I love to striper fish and when I was younger did quite a lot of it. I have heard many bass guys say anytime I catch a striper I slit it open and toss it back.

Don't expect any of this crap to make any sense.  Doing so will only lead to frustration and anger.   Fish how you want to and totally ignore anything you don't wanna hear, because that's what everyone else does.

Believe only what serves your immediate interest.

more bass get kept for dinner than one might think or we would have bass all over 5#! a large fish of any species takes time/luck and genetics to get there..taking it out of the system overtime causes fish to get smaller, today we can photo and release, and if need be have a replica mount made...when we do that perhaps the fish may get caught again larger...one reason handling the fish properly so it doesn't experience a drop off in growing...one reason you see a rise of handling Nazis for fish like Muskies..I always wonder what the effect on fish growth hauling a bass around all day in a live well and dumped well away from its home range

that is sound advise but when another's way adversely effect your personal fishing, expect people to make their dissatisfaction  known

Back to the question about release fish....

I used to count on some to start a bag and in my experience, it’s a short window before they moved on. We planted cover specifically where release boats went “out of sight” on Truman and had several other go to holes to get a keeper.

The bass move on pretty quickly. Seemed like about a 10 day window after a decent sized derby before it became not worth the effort.

That said, it’s still only a % you can get to bite. If it were otherwise, every derby would be settled at bucksaw, alhonna, pb2, ahoys, long creek marina, RB, state park, etc. certainly not how it turns out  the data isn’t there....

I can promise you one thing.  TR is a very tough lake to fish successfully, and the population is not going to be damaged so bad that there are not any bass, due to transport.  And if this happens, the MDC can add fish to the population.  We live in a commercialized money driven world, this is not going to slow down.  That is a good thing for all the lodge owners, boat repair companies, eateries, grocery stores, tackle shops, etc... you get my point.  Like it or not, you want the big tourneys.  It keeps the economy humming!!!!

So, if I am following your meaning, you think that MDC should use monies from all over the state and from hunters and fishermen who never see your lake to subsidize bass tournament fishing  be cause you think it helps the local economy?

Our Mission

To protect and manage the fish, forest, and wildlife resources of the state; to facilitate and provide opportunity for all citizens to use, enjoy, and learn about these resources.

I read this several times and I see no  reference to aiding the local economies of the state or of any lake region. Depletion of and subsequent  restocking of a species, as you suggest is almost diametrically opposed to the meaning of conservation  in MDC.

This seems to fit with fishinwrench's theory of forever migrant fish. They don't stay at the "dump" because it ain't home but they don't go home either.
