All you guys moving fish instead of MLF style need to take an ego check.

Fair-Ish. If an MLF series is introduced on TR with the same attendance and payout structure that is currently available, I'm in. Until then, old ways die hard.

MLF also has marshals in every boat to weigh fish, penalize anglers, verify that they aren't lying, etc. How do you pull that one off in a lower level tournament with your average Joe fishing it? Total length would work, but I doubt many are going to go for that when it comes to bass. A 20" female full of eggs will go much farther than a 20" male this time of year.

If it's a legal means of catching fish in the eyes of the state and allowed by the tourney, I've got no issues. Everybody in the field can choose to use whatever legals means is at their disposal to try and catch the biggest bag. And I would bet that 9 times out of 10, the guy that puts the time in on the water finds a way to get it done over the average joe that just shows up Saturday morning armed only with information gleaned from this forum and/or YouTube fishing reports(which I am more than guilty of).

I'm not here to die on "A-Rig" hill. If they want to outlaw it tomorrow for the reasons Fish24/7 mentioned (which is the best argument I've heard against it so far) or any reason, you won't hear anything from me. Frankly, my wallet would appreciate it.

i am not arguing any of your points about learning to use the fishing tool that puts fish in the boat for you.  my point is to actually have a completely level playing field in a tournament, if dragging any lure is ok and using an a-rig is ok in the tournament rules, then trolling multiple lures and using live bait should also be allowed to have a level playing field.  there are many that like to troll just as much as those that love to use the a-rig and since "strolling" seems to be ok to do, actual trolling with mutiple plugs should be allowed also.

you are very correct that regardless what fishing tool you are using, you still have to be putting it in front of fish.  many tournament rules have a real need to be better clarified, and if a tournament allows the a-rig, you had better spend some time learning to use that particular fishing tool.

years ago in the Seven Valley Bass Club, we would have one lure tournaments upon occasion.  it was a very good learning curve to many in the club as it forced them to learn how to fully utilize the fishing tool that was chosen.  the a-rig would have been a good one to have chosen from for a one lure tourney.  i wonder when anyone will think to use cranks or minnow type hard plastics lures on the a-rig?

every picture has a date and time stamp.  want to go by a limit weight, then each boat or angler just brings in picks of their 5 best, and could include a short bass since they are being released and not put into a livewell.  everyone would have to be using the same type of scale which could be mandated in the rules.

we are coming up on spawning season, and how much better would it be for any fishery not to have those big females displaced off of their bed.  fine to catch them, but let them go back to their bed and not haul them off thirty miles.  all of those that love fishing brush piles for tournaments, your brush piles would not be depleted of bass if they were let go after capture and weighed and they could be caught again next week.

back to your thoughts on how to prevent cheating, if someone wants to cheat on the local level, they will cheat regardless of the format.

Everyone seems a little worked up..lol.  I have not ever thrown the a rig and decided not to throw in the aia this weekend. Got my butt handed to me and my wallet robbed.  I will tell you the a-rig is not a a throw and wind bait.  I didn't practice and tried to throw it in jerkbait spots and got my butt kicked.  Personally, hats off to those guys who have learned it and catch em on it.

You mean there is actually more to it than just tying one on and fishing it in any random spot? I'd have never guessed based on what these other guys say about it. 😄😄
