in any tight quarters, one should idle by boats are fishing.  what gets me is i will come off plane and idle by someone fishing up in the kings, and it will not be very long that same boat comes by us on plane and about throw us out.  it has made me, many times, want to pull up the trolling motor and follow them and give them a taste of their own medicine.  almost kind of glad my journey here is getting shorter all the time.  it has become a world that i am not accustomed to.

Just proves my point that the world is full of bastards, the number increasing rapidly the further one gets from Gravois Mills, Mo.

Many of those same categories exist in fishermen too, oblivious, don't care and the ones we don't notice much, the decent polite ones, they exist on the water, at the launch ramps (my favorite), and on the roads.  Although I would say the percentages are a bit different.  But I have had ski boats idle up to where we were fishing and say, "we want to pull our kids on a tube just outside the mouth of this cove, will we be bothering you?

I don't disagree with this most of the time but a large number of guys that think their doing someone a favor coming off plane aren't at all. They come off plane too late, push bigger waves by not really slowing to idle, then back to full bore before they really get by you pushing even more water.

They end up causing 3 or 4 times the headache then if they would have gone by at 20-30 mph on plane and give you a decent berth.  I can only think of a handful of locations from the state line down on the Kings that I can't pass someone at a reasonable distance on plane at a 20-30 mph speed unless your sitting dead center of the lake on a bend(think akin back) or the narrow channel just down from the 86 bridge or if the water is really low.

Most of the spots I fish are above the bridge and in some cases the river is less than 150' across meaning legally just about every boat going by me should come down off plane and idle by. Since most of those guys run up to 50' of where I'm sitting, cut the throttle from 100% to 10%, power idle through, and get back on plane when their boat is even with mine, I would much rather them buzz me on plane at a lower speed and give me a friendly wave as they go by. Plus if they see me catch a fish 90% drop anchor right there and fish right on top of you.

Don't get me wrong the best method is certain giving plenty of distance, getting to a true idle, and passing the people fishing before hammering down, but in practice very few actually go to that level in which case I wish they would just slow to a reasonable speed, stay on plane, and wave.

if would be better if they go by on plane to have it lit.  not too much wake from a boat that is sitting on nothing.

did not say he was, and i liked his response, which clearly shows he in not the enemy and is fully aware of the issues we have going on lake wide.

bo, you have obviously been around here a long time … my comment was not directed at you, but for the benefit of newer members who might have mistaken Edwin for a wake boat yahoo. If it came off wrong, I apologize.

Even when I am spoon jigging the drop off at Eagle Rock, I have no problem with a bass boat on plane and moving fast. The wake is near nothing. A ski boat or a PWC may annoy, but still  - not that much of a problem.

A wake boat that passes within 50 yards is an tsunami, with which I cannot deal without expletives.

On a side note, my, how my initial post has found legs as a wake boat thread.

Jerks and unsafe, inconsiderate idiots are not limited to the pleasure-boat, wake-boat crowd.  One of the worst morons I've ever encountered was Sunday evening coming out of Big Indian and heading towards Baxter Boat Dock.  We all had the youngest Grandson out on the 'toon during his Easter Break and he had just nailed a dandy 18" Smallie and had successfully landed it on 6 lb despite the usual frantic "crash-dive" at boatside.   We're putt-putting along in a straight line about 40 yds. away from the shore on the left side when I hear this boat coming up from astern.   Here comes some brain-dead idiot (that I hope is reading this) with Arab-style headgear on driving a red Bass Tracker with a portly gent in the passenger's seat.   This idiot passes us not even 25' ( yes, that's FEET) away on our port side, between us and the shore, and then cuts DIRECTLY across our bow.  All five us are immediately pissed and we followed the jerk to the Baxter launch ramp where my Wife prevailed upon me not to start anything...which four out of the five of us were ready to do.   We got good pictures of the moron walking up the courtesy dock to get his tow-rig and trailer with his Arab-style rag still on his head and the Red Tracker and its registration numbers in the foreground.  😖

Yeah other fishermen can certainly be rude to say the least.  Couple of weeks ago, early in the morning, water is like glass and I'm half way back in a cove getting some top water action.  Haven't seen another boat at all.  Hear an outboard running in the distance, it gets closer and around the point and into the cove comes some dude, plows water and goes past me about 50 feet, cuts the motor, deploys a minnow bucket over the side and drops the trolling motor and starts fishing.  Not a young guy either, old enough to know better.

Didn't say anything to him, I figure if a guy is a jackass at his age then it's a permanent condition, nothing I say will fix it.

Plenty of other spots to fish, so I left, certainly don't want to be in the vicinity of a jackass in case it's contagious.

Plus, that stuff ain't allowed across the state line.

It's bad enough where y'all keep it as it is.....
