It has the direct Doppler Radar information, as fast as it comes off the radars. It has many levels of data, some of which can be a bit overwhelming, but the storm cell tracks are worth their weight in gold, even if you just keep it on a basic composite reflectivity view. Storm warning and watch boxes show up as soon as they are issued, nationwide. If you are a bit more of a weather geek, the wind speed, cloud height, storm total precipitation and precipitation views are super interesting. It is hands down the best severe weather tool I've ever seen, and I've been using it for over 10 years now, both for fishing, and for watching weather for outdoor concert events where we are tasked with finding the balance between keeping sometimes tens of thousands of folks safe, and adherence to the old "the show must go on" rule. It's sad that there were several really good free radar apps out there a few years ago (with minimal ads that were tolerable) that had most of the functionality of this pay app. In fact, watching the base velocity doppler radar allowed me to call my in-laws that lived in Joplin when that massive tornado came through to let them know that storm was coming. They had no clue it was coming even though they weren't in the path of the tornado thankfully. Since then the one I used most, intellicast, has been bought up by the subsidiary of the Weather Channel, Weather Underground, and wonderful radar views have been taken away and replaced by one that has about 20% of the functions and views the intellicast one had. Can't even upgrade to a version that has the advanced features. Guess I'll have to buy one of these pay apps one of these days. skeeter and magicwormman 2 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Same thing has happened lately with the Weather App on DIRECTV you can get if your receiver is connected to the Net. The former Weather App was far better than the worthless Piece of Junk they now expect viewers/subscribers to be happy with. Neither one of them would put the Radar images in motion so you could kind of determine where the heavy weather was headed but at least you could get your local Radar on the previous thing but not on the new clunker.
vernon Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Pretty sure I pay $10 a year for the Radarscope "Pro" version. I'm sure some will think that's ridiculous but if you're outdoors and not near readily available shelter a lot like I am it's well worth it. Just last week it enabled us to stay at least fifteen minutes or so ahead of all the lightning and wind and plan our movements around the lake with more than an educated guess. Lightningmap.org is free website (not app) that's also very valuable and is free. It will alert you to lightning strikes within however many miles you choose to select in the settings (mine's on 30 miles) and even has cool little rings that follow the the thunder from the point of the strike to your location with amazing accuracy. If that sucker goes off on my iPhone you better bet I'm immediately checking Radarscope to see what is or isn't heading my way. Call me paranoid but as a guy that has actually been struck by lightning once before I'm gonna do everything I can to keep it from ever happening again! tho1mas, Champ188, mixermarkb and 3 others 6 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." liphunter Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Just because your paranoid, doesn't mean it won't get you!!! lol vernon 1 Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???
mixermarkb Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Radarscope is well worth the cost. Free apps are fine, some of them used to be pretty good even, but seriously, the accuracy and range of data you can get with Radarscope is just on another level. I'd still feel like it was worth the cost, even if it was $50 instead of $10. magicwormman and vernon 2

Champ188 Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I’m curious, did the infusion of extra energy do anything to improve your driving distance? 😂 magicwormman 1
