And that's the same answer to the flu...it simply hasn't been deadly enough (since the 1918 flu). No, we don't completely understand this virus. It continues to mystify the scientific and medical establishment. Is that a reason not to take as many precautions as possible? I don't put all my faith in the government...especially since the government has been giving out mixed messages from the beginning. Fauci would stand up at a podium and say one thing, and then Trump would get up right afterwards and say something completely different. Which one are you to believe? Hint...one has a vested interest in convincing voters that everything is great under his watch. So I read the science, I don't listen to the government. And again, I can take risks as I see fit, but I can't control what risks others take with MY health. I don't care in the least what risks they take with their health, that's their business. But when what they are doing risks the health of myself and my loved ones, that's a whole different story. And please don't say, as Wrench has repeatedly, that all I need to do is stay home. Why should the selfishness of some people force others to either take real risks or not be able to live their lives? Should it be one person's choice to drive 70 mph down residential streets while everybody who thinks that is unsafe shouldn't drive on those streets? I too try to trust the science... I just have a real hard time trusting anyone at this point, and with as much back and forth we've been exposed to In think we should all question everything unfortunately. To be self centered a bit though you are in control of your choices. You still have the freedom to choose. The other side if you want to put folks on sides are trying to execute their ability to choose based on what they believe in also... there will likely never be agreement here. Just to clarify though if it meant getting to fish with you Al or some of my other friends here, and they asked me to wear a mask in their boat I'd happily oblige to keep you all safe. I understand the risks to folks in certain age brackets or with pre existing conditions In really do. And thank you for the civil conversation here. Devan S. Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Here's what I don't understand from the hard anti mask crowd. Why not....what do you lose or give up by wearing it? Even if the effectiveness were shown to be a minimal 5% isn't that something better than nothing when compared to the potential downsides? Most of us live in a state where state government hasn't mandated mask but have advised and promoted the wearing of them(at least via lip service). I don't understand how that can be construed as giving up freedom. If the answer is I don't like the government telling me what to do. Then why is this the mole hill you want to take a stand on? Surely you refused to wear seat belts by the same token or refuse to follow basic traffic laws? Refuse to file income taxes? Refuse to purchase guns via background checks? Refused to comply with the ACA mandate when it was required? It just in the grand scheme of things seems so minor to me in the risk vs. reward sense. Especially when you add in the fact that in a lot of cases employers are requiring them but people aren't quitting jobs over masks in any significant numbers. It's almost like if it was mandated suddenly en masse people would be on board but when its advisable suddenly everyone wants to take a stand because there's no "penalty" Terrierman, Mitch f and Flysmallie 2 1
JestersHK Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 And then I see articles like this and just scratch my head or my posterior, not sure which one at this point anymore https://www.kfvs12.com/2020/11/03/people-infected-with-covid-can-go-polls-cdc-says/ I mean should we stay quarantined if we are covid positive, or is our vote more important than our health to them? Which one is it...
nomolites Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 First let me say, I wear a mask as appropriate - which is a lot lately as my wife has health issues at the moment that have required many hospital and doctors office visits. My beef is the scads of virtue signalers, who quote their belief in science, when they truly do not understand it at all. Just repeating what they have heard .... and low and behold there are many who don’t like to be told what to do - and will go out of their way to not comply. We humans do not have control of this thing, we are just along for the ride. That is science. Mike Johnsfolly, Daryk Campbell Sr, JestersHK and 2 others 5
