ness Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Honestly, I wish this forum didn't even have a political purgatory. And I wish OA was stricter about what's acceptable. I follow another forum and it's specifically forbidden to discuss politics or religion. Threads are deleted or locked quickly if it happens, but it's rare. Why? Because everyone knows and respects the rules and members self police. It's got a better vibe, tons of good information and better camaraderie. Don't ask me what forum it is -- that's not the point. I think the reason many of our best, most interesting and knowledgeable members don't post as much anymore is because of the nonsense here. IMO, a little tougher stance would make this a better place. And, if done right it wouldn't require daily intervention -- it would take care of itself after a while. Flame away... Well maybe if this thread was taken to purgatory in the first place, we wouldn’t see it here. But it’s very easy not to peek in the political forum, but some just can’t help themselves I guess. snagged in outlet 3 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

I always enjoyed this forum. So much, I've never looked elsewhere. I've gotten specific info on others, but I frequent OAF. As far as politics and religion, I think we are very well under control. We know the rules, some play out of bounds on occasion, but I dont feel any offense on either side. I know so we have a lot less participation than we did 5 years ago, but many forums have completely dried up. I believe that just goes with the options of other media. I enjoy your thoughts, and hope you continue to share them. ColdWaterFshr Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 It's all good. We get along for the most part. I enjoy this forum as an outlet and it suffers me no harm. Hopefully my words are not to anyone either. I try to keep the insults to a minimum, except those directed at that one in Orange. 🤫 For me, this is a healthy outlet. . . friends, some of whom I know well and have fished and camped with, and many who I don't, but I am sure I would get along great with. Semi-anonymity in this forum, is a nice place to go, to get some crap off my chest and argue, respectfully acknowledging each others viewpoints (though the vast majority are absurd) as if around a campfire and face to face. I would gladly share a beer and a campfire with any and all of you and I count you all as friends, regardless of politics (or degrees of absurdity). Come on over to the political forum, if you dare, and I will deconstruct your arguments piece by piece, and turn you in to a frail and feckless democrat. Cheers. Paul Dallas. Name 2 of them. I can't, for the life of me, think of a single person that used to post frequently, but is now gone, except for WayneSWMO, and he didn't leave by choice. I'll tell you a little secret (about me)....Alot of the BS that I put on here really isn't because I'm a genuine douchebag 😂 It's because people come to my place who never post on here....but read the content faithfully. They, for the most part, either think I'm a real hoot! Or they hate my guts for the first 3 minutes they are here, then ease up quickly. It kinda breaks the ice, in a fun kinda way. It's a quicker route to friendship when approaching from the opposite direction....IYKWIM. I learned that during my online dating phase. The quickest way to get laid by a gal on a dating website is to immediately piss them off (mildly), then confidently do the needed "clean-up". Nobody trusts and relaxes around a person who is always kissinass and being annoyingly proper. 😊 I'd rather greet someone that is pulling in with an attitude, than to greet someone who is all uptight and being phoney. We all cuss, fart, hock loogies, and call each other Pricks and Dickheads. The sooner that 2 guys, meeting for the first time, get to that point....the better.

Ketchup Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Again, The Wrench makes a valid point. I was one of those guys that laughed at his “sometimes” nonsense, but after meeting, and fishing a tournament with the guy, now look at him as a friend, and someone i can cut up with, without either getting pissed. i went on to other hobbies the past 2 years, and see now that this place is more quiet than it was. That’s not all bad. As Daryk stated, every site goes thru that. i read a few topics in the Political section, and believe i may fit right in there, as soon as i start pissing some of you off with your outright political stupidity. “See, i started already”. tjm Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Some forums are well policed for sure and often too. But they are like living in a town where the Mayor has forbidden all politics except his own and the only church in town is the one that supports him as dictator. Politics and religion are the foundations of our society, without them you either have chaos or totalitarianism. Surely everyone wants to be told what to think and how to react and be made to comply?
