I'm going to assume that it's a water temperature thing.   Tailwaters are consistently colder during the Summer months.   But to me that makes no sense because Browns don't spawn in the Summer.    

Who knows 🙄 You're dealing with biologists....so nothing is required to make sense.

They close it for Nov, Dec & Jan. 

That is when they say the browns spawn.

They should move it to October if they really want to protect spawners.

Maybe its all the day drinkers floating and peeing in the water that's warming it up too much?

Maybe they should close the entire stream from April to Nov. to prevent casual floaters peeing in the water?

Maybe MDC should dump semi loads of ICE into the warm water sections to cool it down?

So the browns can't successfully spawn elsewhere because of WHAT then?   

I assumed it was because of water temps....but nearly any stream should be cool enough during that time period.

Brown trout do reproduce naturally on the Bull Shoals and Greer's Ferry tailwater. I'm not sure about the Norfork tailwater, and Taneycomo has temperature issues.

Gateway TU is running an experiment. They put out a bunch of vibert boxes full of brown trout eggs in a spring creek that runs into to Huzzah a couple weeks ago. Will see what happens.

We could probably have allot more wild rainbow trout fisheries in MO & AR, but you would need to get rid of the farm raised trout. Farm raised and stream born trout usually don't do well together to the detriment of the natives. Plus folks would complain about not being able to fish with cheese and keep a limit of slicks every time out.

It is my understanding that they do spawn in the White river during the winter. I just didn't get your post about summertime water temps.
