My sister and her husband, both 68, had to drive 3 hours for an available time slot. The wife and I, because we live here in a retirement community that includes skilled nursing, will receive our second shot this Sunday. So far no signs of a second head. Well, heck, the OK governor is still trying to sell off the $2 million worth of hydroxychloroquine he ordered back in April. Probably doesn't have the money to buy enough vaccine doses.

I know states are distributing it, but I think the feds decide how much each state gets. the real holdup is that it is a logistical nightmare to store, dilute, administer, document both the Moderna and Prizer products AND the cherry on top is that each patient has to get two doses. Johnsfolly Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 I've been seeing a lot of talk about the EU having issues with vaccines produced in the EU being exported outside of EU. A lot of that seemed directed at UK and the issues around Brexit.
MOPanfisher Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 It is also taking a bit for each vaccontain site to work out the best or most efficient way to route and handle the unexpected number of people they are getting. I got yesterday in a small very rural county, they had probably 10 or so local rescue volunteers, plus a few nurses, the director of the health center wearing coveralls outside registering people in, and her husband helping as well. Then every recipient has to wait 15 minutes to leave. The local rescue folks had them lined up like parking for a football game, and each patient had a sticky note on as to when they could leave. I am sure when the NG sets up somewhere they hopefully will utilize a big area and parking lot.
ColdWaterFshr Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Nice to see a whole bunch of Missouri lawmakers cut in line yesterday. Disgusting. As we rank 50th in the Nation in distributing the vaccine. netboy Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Well the Covid vaccine distribution in Arkansas is a complete disaster. I am 72 and in the 1-B category. The local radio station (KTLO) said that you have to take it in your home county. We live in Marion county and the only place is a Harp's pharmacy in Yellville. Well OK, we call them and try to get on "the list". Guess what, no list. They said we need to just keep checking their website to try to get an appointment. That was 2 weeks ago and no appointments. So today we call some pharmacy in Mountain Home that is "designated" to administer said vaccine. They said we will put you on the list. Oh great, but wait... she says I am number 2,200 on the list. Well Okay then when can I expect the shot? She says it will be months as they can only give about 100 PER WEEK, as they have no one other than the pharmacist to give the shot and he has more important stuff to do. So why would the state rely on small mom and pop pharmacies with no staff to roll this out when our local hospital and their outlying clinics have probably a couple dozen trained personnel that can do the injections?

I guess we got lucky.

It may be small solace, but Arkansas is doing lots better than a lot of states. BRMC is having a mass vaccination event 2/2/21. We will be administering 1300 doses in a 10 hour period. That should take some of the pressure off the local pharmacies and help move people up the wait list. You had to sign up online last Wednesday. They made the announcement on the radio last Wednesday in the morning and all the spots were filled in a few hours. I might suggest you call the hospital and ask to be placed on the standby list in case some people don’t show for their appointments. The vaccines will be given at a scheduled time at the Baxter County Fairgrounds. BRMC will likely do a couple more of these events if we are allocated more vaccine. If I find out that another will be done, I will try to PM you to check the website each morning or listen to the radio. The sign up app is only on the website until the vaccines are all spoke n for. The state is giving hospitals 25% and local pharmacies 75%. The thought was that pharmacies were more widespread, but most lack the staff to give the vaccines very quickly. It’s not that they have more important things to do, but people do need the prescriptions filled and they are basically only giving the vaccines as a community service. If you’re not involved in the process, you probably don’t understand how labor intensive and logistically difficult it is to vaccinate everyone. The hospital has a large staff and it is still demanding and exhausting. snagged in outlet 3, BilletHead, Johnsfolly and 1 other 1 3 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future.
