I'm afraid there's going to be some kayak disasters on Lake O before long.   It's not the fishing guys either, they seem to have some sense.   It has become a recent thing with all these non-fishing crackheads buying 75.00-150.00 kayaks from Walmart or Dick's and taking off across the main channel.

Saw several doing it on those nice days immediately after ice-out.... wearing nothing but shorts, flip-flops, and a T-shirt.

How much meth does it take to ward off hypothermia I wonder?  I'm thinking probably 2 hits less than it takes to survive being run over by a Scarab.  😐

Yep, you beat me to it. Motor restrictions.

As far as Taney, Phil is right don't know a guide that has not saved at least one capsized kayak.

My worst one was a Mature guy and his wife going under Trout Hollow dock a few years ago. Have no idea how they lived thru it. Good Lord was sitting on their shoulder.

Saved another over weight gal overturned by a boat wake in the logs across from Trout Hollow and got her up on the bank. That was a bad one too.

Lots of high volume water and narrow in that location. Pretty dangerous for the Yackers.

Total bane to navigation.

Has anyone ever said anything to the rental companies?   Seriously.  That cold water and current is enough but add in power boats and it’s a disaster waiting to happen.  I have nothing against them but I sure won’t recommend anybody do it.  Especially on vacation.

I had to rescue a 12 year old girl that tipped her yak just above short creek last October. She was 200 yards in front of her group went she went over. It was a good thing they weren't generating but 1 unit. I had a jacket on as it was a little cool, she had a T-shirt on. It was a very windy day which made it feel much colder. She was shivering as we helped her back into her yak. I told her dad that she could develop hypothermia before the reached their take out at Cooper Creek. Those yaks are launched in heavy fog at the boat ramp at the dam and they go right out in the middle and start downstream. I have no idea why one hasn't been run over or drowned in the current but it will happen sooner or later. I hate  yaks as most of the people in them have no boating experience ,never wear a pfd , are out after dark with no lights or early in the morning with no lights.

Have you ever seen those Youtube videos titled "What's it really like"  They compare the advertisement for a cruise ship and it's nearly empty with a few people around and plenty of space.  Cut to the real video and you can't find a deck chair to sit on.   Not a boat in sight on these pictures..

Aw, c'mon.  Throw in a couple cases of beer and a handle of Jack and they'll be just fine!

It'll be fun they said.......

What could go wrong they said......🤦‍♂️

This last Sunday Evening heading back,  police officers and firefighters flagged me down from shore below cooper creek boat ramp 6 teenagers in kayaks and Walmart raft had tipped over.   9,000 + CFS  we had to pluck one young man out and take him to EMS waiting for him down stream, don't think he would have made it much longer in that water.  Everyone one ended up ok, but the whole lot of water rescue folks, firefighters, and police officers where mobilized.
