I for one would really like to know what the guides said about Jimmy.

We were there a couple weeks after he had left with his crew. I guess there were quite a few of them, like 20. He bad mouthed their boats and gear, told them they were horrible fishermen. They claimed he told them where they would fish and then blamed them if they didn’t catch fish. And if any of the other boats caught a good fish they had to hold on to it until Jimmy got there for photos. Those guys were just not impressed.

There are several guys that, as they have aged a bit, are now pushing the christian angle so heavily that it is sickening.   Jimmy Houston., Hank Parker, and several other famous fishermen should just go ahead and become televangelists now, because they have more religious based content falling out of their mouths than fishing based content these days.

Obviously seeking a sponsorship that they fear they haven't quite secured yet.  🙄

I've been watching Honey Hole Outdoors hosted by Bill Wilcox.  He mostly fishes Texas lakes, fishes in ways I like to fish except that he is not a finesse guy.  He has done a show on Table Rock where he didn't so very well, and is saw his name pop up in the standings on the lasted TR Big Bass deal so it would not surprise me if he filmed it.

For years he had been sponsored by BPS, he'd give an overview of the show where he'd be sitting in a BPS store and he'd fish out of a Nitro.  This year he's in his garage or at the ramp, and he is in a Phoenix.

This weeks show he took a swim, looks like he was hung up on something so he steps in front of the graphs on the bow, loses his balance and falls right in.  Fortunately it was in a warm-water powerplant lake, but the air temps were cold.  He also had a cameraman to help him get back in the boat.

They went back to the truck, changed into some dry clothes, and went back to fishing.

Funny how you never really know all the tricks those guys use on TV just to make a show. I remember growing up watching Wild Kingdom on Sunday night thinking WOW that was incredible. After I got older and learned a lot of those shots were staged I lost the appeal for those kind of shows.

Shortly after it had opened back in the mid 90's I bought a boat from Jimmy Houston Marine down in Tahlequah, Ok.  His son in law was managing the operation at the time and although Dower was a really nice guy he didn't have a clue what he was doing.  Well, that actually worked out in my favor as I'm pretty sure I got that boat for around cost.  When I picked it up he even asked me "How did I do on the price?" I think it might have literally been the first boat he ever sold.  Well, since I had priced the same boat with five other dealers and he was at least three grand cheaper than the next best I'd say he did pretty good.

In fact I showed the paperwork to Steve Monte at Steve's Boat's and Bob Parkey the Ranger rep and they both said that there was no way in heck that he could seriously be selling me that boat for that price and that there had to be a mistake.

Anyways, while the boat was being built we went down to the Tulsa boat show where Dower took me to meet Jimmy.  What. A. Jerk.  He started lecturing me on not under powering boats and how "guys like you are always under powering boats to save a few bucks" (although the boat had already been ordered with the max rated outboard).  He even said, "Don't be bringing that boat back down here and come crying to me when it doesn't perform because you put too small a motor on the back."

He had the KU-OU basketball game on a little TV in his booth and me being a KU guy I wanted to watch a little bit.  He spent the next twenty minutes brow beating me with all the reasons that KU was over rated and how HE could do a better job coaching Kansas than some guy named Roy Williams.

Finally I couldn't take it anymore and left to walk around the rest of the show but OU ended up coming back and winning.  Well, Jimmy tracked me down on the other side of the arena to brag about how he had told me that KU was over rated and that HE woulda won that game if he had been coaching KU.  Finger in my chest and the whole bit.

Never saw him again but I couldn't help but smile extra big a few weeks later when I drove that Ranger off the lot knowing I mighta got at least a little piece of Jimmy Houston Marine that day.

Was sorry to recently hear about his wife's illness however as she seemed really nice.

Man, I guess I have never seen that side of Jimmy, but have never met him in person, just what I see on TV.

I don't know how that guy has kept his face from being burned off, never have seen him with a hat on while fishing, he sure likes to show off that bowl haircut he has.  Guess it's his signature thing, that haircut.

I've heard stories about Tommy Biffle and Martin being real A holes on the water, but that's with money on the line so I get it in a sense. For me its the off the water stuff that makes you wanna walk the other way.

I really miss the old Big 8 basketball with Roy Williams, Billy Tubbs, and Norm. That was a lot of fun!

I lived in the Boston area in the glory days of the Big East.  John Thompson, Rollie Massimino, Louie Carneseca, PJ Carlisimo, Jim Boeheim,  Gary Williams, the UCONN guy whose name I can't remember - anyway, that league was crawling with great coaches and players.

Had the chance to spend some time with Marlin Perkins wife a few years ago. she dold me stories about some of their adventures, don't think many of them were staged. Like getting their jeep rolled several times by a Rhino..with them in it.  I'm sure some of it was.
