I can tell you that Busch Wildlife is a cheaters paradise on the cnr lakes.   Just watch on the weekends and see for yourself.   They are so comfortable keeping them they don’t even hide it.

August Busch Lakes #3, #22 and #23 Restrictions

Year-round: You must stop fishing for all species after having 4 trout in possession.

Nov. 1 - Jan. 31:
Only 1 pole may be used.
Use of chum is prohibited.

Trout permits are required if trout are kept.

Trout may be taken by pole and line using all types of lures and baits under statewide limits, except during the dates listed below.

August Busch Lakes #21 and #28 Restrictions

November 1 - January 31:

Catch and release only for trout.
Flies, artificial lures, and unscented soft plastic baits only.
Only 1 pole may be used.
Use of chum is prohibited.

February 1 - October 31: You must stop fishing for all species after having 4 trout in possession.

Area Type

So in the first three lakes there are really no restrictions. There are catch and release restrictions for the other two lakes. Those distrinctions may not be fully understood by most folks. Probably easy to ignore or difficult to enforce with the excuse that "I caught these over in Lake 3". Seems like a bad situation for enforcement. May not have anything to do with the politics of the Mayor 😉.

I was referring to the cnr lakes.  There is no Mayor.  Busch is in St Charles Country not the city.  I don't think they check anyone there.   Last time there I saw chumming and bait slingers.  I'm sure some of it is just like Taney.  They simply don't read the regs and figure it's legal.

They can't honestly claim that they are selling THAT MANY more tags now.

I wouldn't say they are selling more tags at RRSP but there seem to be ten bodies and six dogs for every tag. With the banks worn away from traffic and lawn furniture on the banks and in the water, hard use that fishing didn't used to generate. I would not want more parking spaces there .

I agree with you at RR.

I don't doubt that.  It isn't unheard of for agents to bust folks at trout parks 5, 10, 50 fish over the limit, either.  I haven't been in a trout park in a while, but I've watched folks drop a limit off at their campsite and come back to continue fishing.  I've watched folks put fish on kid's/girlfriend's/grandpa's stringer, so they can keep fishing.

I've watched folks cast before the buzzer,  use trebles in single-point areas.  I've watched folks snag fish, watch folks creel foul-hooked fish, I had a big white treble -the kind you use to grab  suckers- go through my knee as I released a fish at Montauk years back.  Wonder how that got there.

I've watched folks use bait in fly/lure areas, use trout guts as bait, dip flies in bacon grease.  I'm certain if you floated the Current, 11 Point, or Meramec this time of year you could find someone soaking nightcrawlers and salmon eggs where it's prohibited, fishing without a license, or keeping fish without a trout stamp.

To my knowledge the urban lakes are stocked once.  If 500 fish are planted and they're all harvested the next week, that's it.  Someone pulls 20 fish out of Bennett and they'll be replaced the next day, 20 more for them to take.  Cheating's ubiquitous, it's rampant in the trout parks too, and despite that, they're stocked every dang day.  But we can't stock an urban lake once because cheating?

Since we're able to put up with cheating on a daily basis in the parks, March through October- surely we can put up with it in urban lakes November through February.

I’m not a fan of cheating anywhere.  Most urban lakes are desolate wastelands until trout are stocked because every single fish is kept, including bluegill less than 3 inches long.  The parks would not fare much better without stockings to be sure..and are too crowded for my tastes, for that reason alone I spend more time fishing outside the parks than inside but I do like their facilities.  I rarely keep trout anyway, but I love to catch them…especially browns.  As mentioned earlier AFGC has it all over MDC in this regard.
