Good friend has had 3 boards go out on his. Got fed up last week, took it off when back to the boat dealership,  carried it into service bay, threw it on the floor and walked out without saying a word.

His first one the lower  unit leaked and spewed water out the head. Mine did the exact same thing and then it had a board in the foot pedal go out. They gave him a new updated 2021. 2 boards later he has had a dose.

That product has been on the market forever and it’s still a huge piece of excrement.

Just ticks me off that people’s trust and hard earned time and money have to put up with this.

What did your friend end up going with?

Not looking to jinx myself here but my Ultrex is one of the first ones built (over four years old) and I've had zero issues and still consider it the single best boat related purchase I've ever made.

In contrast a neighbor of mine is on his third or fourth Garmin and is still having problems so I guess it's kinda like everything else in life and is somewhat the luck of the draw.

To hear him tell it it's been about everything but he's a whiner by nature and never happy with anything.  To be honest I try to avoid the guy so I don't really know many of the details.

He's constantly at war with Phoenix and Mercury too.

He pretty much tears the crap out of everything he owns and then blames the manufacturers.

The good news is he just sold his house and is moving to Alabama so fortunately he'll be taking all the complaining with him.

I will defend wrench on most of his whining, I have been in parts industry since 94 and most of what he gripes about is legit and I have some of same issues.

Fisheries biologist too?  Small trout at Bennett?  Poor management at the hatchery?  4 strokes?  Mercury in general?  😂  I could go on...😄

My Ultrex has been fantastic in the 2.5 years I've had it. I did wait several years before jumping in to one though since I figured they would have some issues. The faulty main boards in the pedal was the main issue. As for spot lock disengaging, the only time mine ever does this is if something interferes with the foot pedal while it's in spot lock OR if I am in heavy current that I can't hold in and it drifts too far off of it's mark.
