laker67 Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Do you recall when most of the guides from taneycomo were using the photo tank to show off their catches? Well, maybe not Bill Babbler, his kind of hung out on both ends. Corky and I could not afford one of the store bought ones, so we made our own. This is one of our photo tank catches. liphunter, Johnsfolly, Harv and 9 others 7 5
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 24, 2021 Root Admin Posted July 24, 2021 Funny you bring it up... FB photos of guides holding big trout with bogas is driving me crazy. Blood lines down the sides of the fish signal real problems. Doty says he's seeing more and more big trout with split jaws. I haven't seen any personally but I don't see that many big trout - personally. I'm in the process of building these display aquariums for our guides. I gave one out a couple of evenings ago and it worked ok. I need to find a way to put handles on them because they're hard to hold up, esp my kids and gals. They're heavy - water and fish together. Then there's the problem with the sides fogging up - cold water and warm, humid air. If I figure it all out, I'll give one to each guide, in exchange for their bogas! fshndoug Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Good job Phil, bogas and trout being held up is a bad deal. As bad as some ones boot in the water and the trout out of the water. laker67 and Quillback 1 1
laker67 Posted July 24, 2021 Author Posted July 24, 2021 It's a shame that the boga grip manufacturer have never given the proper instructions for using a boga grip. I have used one for years . Like most things, there is a proper way. Ryan Miloshewski, fshndoug and BilletHead 3

I'm so glad you said that because I've been complaining about it for the last two years. Everytime you guys post the monthly fish deal I try to comment on the facebook post in opposition of it. I also complain because I hate when a certain guide uses a sign on his boga's to advertise. Not only is it possibly hurting the fish but it's taking away from the beauty and making customers efforts look cheap. There are several guides that use the bogas on every darn fish and take a picture of every darn fish caught. Thank you so much Phil for taking a stand! Johnsfolly Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 I get my photo tanks at Hobby Lobby. Of course I do get looks from the cashier as I am buying three or four packs of little girl lip gloss 😅. Throw out the lip gloss and you're good to go. Still have the fogging issue but with a little care you can get good photos like these. Won't hold a trout though. I did build one using 1/4 inch plexiglass and silicone caulk which did not hold together due to the weight of the water. did get a couple of nice drum photos before it split. here's the drum out of the water to give a perspective of tank size. Ryan Miloshewski Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Great idea, Phil! Boga grips for trout is just dumb. I've seen Babler, Doty, and responsible others, and if the client can't handle the fish, he holds them for a pic. Just do that! This is from a 22" brown in March. They really are doing a bad number on the trout.
