Back in the late 70s we'd treck to Bull Shoals around Pontiac in early May.  Caught lots of bass.  Best two baits we had going were floating black/silver rapalas and purple fire tail worms.  Haven't been back since.  That is my report.

I think the reality is that of the hundreds of people that post consistently only 10ish provide any sort of actual reports. The rest are just here for the banter or fishing related topics.

You can give a lot of information in a report without ever giving a good location or bait used, heck delayed information can and does benefit. I will admit river guys have a more difficult time doing this due to the size of water.

I like the idea of putting a post counter to view but honestly there is tons of information shared on Facebook to the point that nothing is really a secret anymore.

There is a post counter on the desktop version.  This thread has "views 1.2K".

I mainly fish rivers so I don't share details but I don't like to share my trips.  I realize there are other media outlets that have information but I don't want to put it out there myself.

All you lurkers out there that have a 0 post count that just come here for info and never post need to get a new hobby. Go iron your Jersey and move on.

Well you DO gotta be careful.   Too much idle chit-chat and the moderators (and several others) will start to hate on you.

Lots more information available than used to be, but is still some information that is known only to a limited few

Would be interested if you want to sell any of those black/silver floating rapalas if you still have them.

sorry meant more like you have to have a certain post count before you can see information.

I saw that happen years ago.  That’s why I never put a location or show baits in my pictures.   I’ve been saying on here for years people drastically underestimate the amount of internet scouting that goes on here.  Heck I finally bought a jet boat because of the guys posting about the river fishing.  So I guess I’m somewhat guilty.

I guess I am just as guilty.  You see, I was a Zebco 33 fan for many years.   Now, I use spinning reels, and bait casters.   I used to use night crawlers and corn exclusively, now I use plastics semi effectively.  Darn internets.     Them whopper plopper things and A-rigs will never take off though...

Do 10% of anglers catch 90% of the fish?

I share fish pictures, because I feel that stimulates people to get out and go fishing.  If few people fish, few people will want to conserve/improve the resource.

@Ham knows where I often fish.  Its a horrible, dangerous, uncomfortable, and ugly place.  I don't even want to fish there!  The solitude is nice.

I'd be there in a heartbeat if I lived closer 😉!

I agree that there are some species (e.g., smallmouth bass) and locations (e.g., rivers and creeks) that can and do get overrun when too much information is posted online. Many of the species that I am catching are neither rare or are undesirable for many fisherman to catch. So I post more frequently since I do want to show folks the other species that are out there that get overlooked. The rarer species that could be affected by pressure, I try not to give specifics. But I have been chastised for giving information on tailwater/spillway posts. It's not a secret that white and hybrids will stack up below Bagnell or Truman dams. There will already be a crowd if the fish are there. So my posting to me really doesn't affect that situation much.

If someone PM's me about a species that I could help them catch and I feel comfortable about giving them details, I will.
