Looking for some insight as to how to proceed.

I was bitten by a neighbor's dog last week as was my dog - all on my property.  My dog and I both ended up in the emergency room.  My dog had the worst of it.  I went to Cox (Taney Co). The hospital sent a report to Taney County Health who in turn forwarded a report to Stone County health.  I also call the Stone Co, Sheriff and filled out "report form" with them.  I was contacted several times by Stone Co, Health who told me the biting dog did have rabies vaccine but they would not release any other information.  I'm told that because Stone County does not have an Animal Control Department, the biting dog is not quarantined by the county but the owner is asked to do so.  Stone County Health just called recommending I start the rabies vaccine asap.  I have called the Sheriff department several time and they will not release any information to me.  There is a Missouri Statute that addresses dog bites and requires much more than is being done here.

I retired from the big city (Kansas City area).  Things are just not done this way in the big city.  WHAT AM I MISSING HERE?

I'm not sure your talking to the right people. Up here the sheriff deals with the jail & the court system, and the police departments deal with the public, make arrests, write citations, etc. Have you hired an attorney yet? Probably a good idea. Let them chase down the owner for you.

I'm outside the city limits so the Sheriff is all I got.

I would file criminal assault charges against the dogs owner.  You were attacked on your own property.  If the sheriff will not pursue criminal charges, you will have to file civil charges to recover expenses.

Well, I am pretty much a hillbilly, so I would have given the animal high speed lead poisoning, then cut it's head off and taken it in for testing, but hey what do I know😁

 @bobby b.,

   All I have for you is you have the patience of a saint. I applaud you.  I am not sure I could hold back if I was attacked in my yard and used the legal system. It would be worse if it was my wife, child, grandchildren or our great grandchild.  Sorry to hear this happened and keep us informed on what your and all of our legal rights are in this situation.  Thoughts are with you and your dog as you heal,

I must be a hillbilly too because any dog that bites or kills chickens is a dead dog.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

This sounds just like a typical Gravois Mills Pitbull story.     I hope I'm wrong....but I bet I'm not.

"Oh they are great dogs, that don't deserve their reputation".

Yeah, right! 🙄

So was it a pitbull?
