It certainly has very little to do with who is president, as the last time we had prices this high the red team guy was running things.

Not trying to get political, but facts don't lie. Yes GW Bush in 2008 had the highest gas price with a spike over $4 in Sept. However, the prices of fuel under his admin was well under the prices during the Obama admin. The prices under Obama was consistently higher than all previous presidents (except maybe under Carter) and much higher than when Trump was in in office.

U.S. All Grades All Formulations Retail Gasoline Prices (Dollars per Gallon) (eia.gov)

I think when dollar value is counted Carter sold the highest priced gas and we could only get it three days a week. When the wife and I go out for a burger it makes the gas seem cheap. Had a mechanic change the spark plugs on the car recently and it was more than the car payment was when it was new.  Fuel is not that high priced yet, but the money is almost valueless. It's a money problem not a fuel problem.

I’m more “selective” about my fishing trips now.   Whereas before I just went every time I wanted to.  Everything we ship or receive at work (which is 100’s of thousands of tons of steel) is getting whacked with fuel surcharges.   Including rail and barge.   Remote areas get hit the hardest since the trucks can’t get a reload to haul back.  So they essentially pay for the truck coming and going.

Same here. Costs me $40+ to run out to Stockton and back, definitely not worth it for a couple hours of fishing. And I don't have a "thirsty" rig by any means, probably somewhere in the middle. I definitely miss my 14ft Alumacraft with a 25 Johnson, and a Ford Ranger to pull it.

I've been going out probably twice a month lately. I don't even know if I'll be able to keep that up.

If that electric F150 was a little cheaper, I'd have one ordered. That tank a week in my current truck would go pretty far towards making the payment.

Before you buy into the electric truck thing, you might want to check the distance while pulling a trailer.

Someone did that with the Rivan truck and an 800lb trailer. They got 1.5 hrs while towing.

It's on YouTube if someone wants to double check.

I have very little on the topic of towing with an electric truck.

eliminate the fuel tax, sounds good.  But they will just raise another tax to compensate for it.  And if you don't think who is President(administration) is in charge doesn't influence the price of fuel and other commodities then you live in a different world than I do.

They have just suspended the tax here. It will eventually go back into effect and then we may get a 75 cent increase per gallon or more when it does. Not looking forward to that day.

A big concern that I have for EV is that batteries don't hold much charge with temps below freezing. In the middle of a bitter cold winter night would be a bad time to run out of juice. Also how much electricity is needed to run the heater. Gas powered vehicles make their own heat and EVs don't. Do you just have to avoid driving in the cold?

I would only need to make it 60 miles round trip for any of the lakes around here. They are still way too expensive for me to ever consider in the near future.

Range goes way down in the cold with EVs. That is no secret. Cold weather hurts conventional vehicles too though.

Heck it hasn't been that long since we figured out how to make a diesel start in the cold unassisted.

I just wish the high fuel would reduce the traffic on the water. Lakes have been busy every time I've been on them lately, even when it's during the week. I'm taking some guys snagging on LoZ tomorrow. It'll run me $80 to drive to the lake and probably $50-60 in fuel for the boat (depending on how far I have to go to find the spoonies).
