Al Agnew Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 I've been having fun the last couple days. Using the search engine, I've been going back through all the posts I have made throughout the years (beginning in 2006) on these forums. I figured if I posted on a topic, I probably found it interesting, and chances are it's still interesting. I found out that I've started about 460 topics over the years, and have posted over 6,700 times, so that's a lot to go through. And there have been a LOT of very interesting topics. I've also been going back through those 460 plus topics I started, because a lot of them were fishing reports, and they've really made me remember a lot of great fishing trips. I decided that quite a few of the ones I wrote could be adapted to be compiled into a book at some point, so I've started rewriting some of the ones I like best. So a big shout out to Phil for hosting this place, because the only thing I enjoy more than talking about fishing is...fishing. Greasy B, Nick Adams, FishnDave and 5 others 8
fishinwrench Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 For over 20 years I kept a very detailed log of my bass fishing outings. It's cool how once I begin reading one from many years ago I immediately recall everything that happened that day. Snags, backlashes, broken rods, reel failures, everything. I even recall the fish that I "reported" as "caught"......but didn't actually lay hands on. Every single one of them. And exactly where they were at. But if you ask me what I had for lunch 2 days ago.......Blank, nothing there. 🤔. Did I even eat lunch? I don't think I did. Wait.....I ALWAYS eat lunch. For all I know I may have children out there that I've forgotten about. Never forget a fish though. 😅 tho1mas, Phil Lilley, dpitt and 8 others 5 6
jdmidwest Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Not me. Its been my motto to leave no trace. I thought about a log when I was younger. But, I never really started one except a old DOS based program that may be around here on a floppy disk. I just count down the time when I can fish again. It's cool how once I begin reading one from many years ago I immediately recall everything that happened that day. Snags, backlashes, broken rods, reel failures, everything. My actual fishing log is not that detailed. I keep record of every fish, location, size if they exceed a certain length or weight, and lure or bait that I used. Only have these records back to 2011. The rest of the stuff that I track gets lengthy. I now track yearly number of species. I have tracked the number of trout caught in MO. I track each species caught of certain genera, e.g., Lepomis, or Micropterus species, that I want to try and catch them all. I track the states that I have caught fish and whether the first fish was a trout or salmonid. I now track all of the freshwater species in Maryland. I also maintain total species lists with the details of the first catch and personal best for species that warrant that measure. To Al's point, I also do go back to some old threads and enjoy the memories that those trips bring, especially ones that I fished with others from this forum. I've said it before that this is a great site. I have not found another like it, which is likely the reason that I stick around and am still posting while living half way across the country. So a big thanks @Phil Lilley! FishnDave 1
