2 anglers flying out of boat at 75!

Did anyone hear about two guys being ejected from their bass boat while traveling at 75 mph? I heard that it occurred during the Anglers in Action derby. What is worse I heard that neither vest inflated! Most importantly neither guy was hurt, Thank God!

If it’s the same one I heard about it was at lake of the ozarks I believe. one was ejected and one stayed in the boat . The one who went in broke three of his ribs on the side of the boat before going overboard.

This accident happened near Campbell point. I heard that a young couple pulled both guys out of the water! Had to be Angels as one of the guys weighed over 300 lbs!

70 MPH, that's what.  

Nobody I know has any business running 70+mph in a freakin' bassboat.   It takes some considerable time behind the wheel to be able to do it SAFELY.

Yep. Doesn't take very much to make everything go sideways...catch a wake wrong, have to correct for another boater, dodge debris.

Wrench and Dave nailed it. Really doubt it was 70 if there was a 300 pounder on board, but speed, full trim and stuff happens in a hurry.

Watch it, old man. I weigh over 300 ... but not for much longer, as I'm still dieting and losing steadily. Down 100 pounds from a high of 430 two years ago. And even with every storage box stuffed full and my life partner onboard, our Ranger Z-119 will do 68 (GPS speed) in the right conditions. It's done 70 in the past with less gear onboard.

However, with that said, I rarely run that hard, even in a derby. You have to push it hard at takeoff or you'll get run over. But after that initial run, I rare push it over 4700-4800 RPMs, as that's where my Pro-XS 225 likes to settle in and purr. Just not worth the safety risks, not to mention unnecessary wear and tear on our rig. 

Being primarily a "winder" vs. a "dragger," my total number of casts for a day's fishing is probably going to approach 1,000. If I can't catch a good sack in that number of casts, risking life and limb to squeeze in a few more ain't gonna make any difference.

I did not have adequate training in my new Z519, 225 Pro XS.  Early on running pretty hard I had to cut power fast without trimming down and the boat slide sideways a bit - scared the **** out of me.  I can understand now how any little thing could result in a tragedy.  45 - 50 mph is my normal speed now - occasionally going up to WOT (69mph) on glass water without another boat in sight to heat it up to get rid of condensation in the engine.
