How does one get out of that predicament lol I tell my wife it simply isn't worth half of everything we own just to get rid of her, but some days it gets close. She never laughs at my humor and lately just says I can drag it out and get it all when you die. Tricky woman she is. I am hoping for the starving hordes and zombies moving across the land ravaging like locusts as they go. My neighbors and I can for up and make a heck of a last stand. Go out in a blaze of glory as it were. Or at least until I run out of bullets. Besides the government will save us won't they or should I just plan on joining the local warlord, which sounds like way too much work. fshndoug 1

We lived pretty close to the land before REA came through and it takes a bit more to get by than what fits in a bug out bag. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

tjm Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Y'all should try an experiment on your next vacation, live entirely with out electricity or things produced by electricity like ice. Can 40 quarts of tomatoes (or similar, because you'll need to do that with all the perishable vegetables and fruits.) with spring/creek water and wood fire. Devan S. and MoCarp 2
MoCarp Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 The thing now is a stash of seeds….heirloom types that can be kept going…..knowledge will be a skill set in demand, so few under 35 committed much to long term memory…I may order some taxonomy books ( pricy) to be able to accurately ID medicinal herbs…know some really well others not so much…meds and how to use them will be of great need MONKEYS? what monkeys?
Devan S. Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 You really think people that have lived 40 or 50 years in a highly organized, civilized, dependent world are suddenly going to hunker down and survive for more than a several months at most. No A/C, no heat, limited fuel supply, no lights at night, no medicine, no transportation. In a true apocalyptic event after the first month or 2, what are you going to do when you run out of or need something? You still have this civilized thought of going to go out and barter with a neighbor using your cash or gold. Bull crap your going to have to go out with limited transportation into chaos and hope you can find what you need and are not killed in the process. Empty homes and businesses will likely already be ransacked and most useful things taken so your likely to have to find someone just like yourself to ransack and pillage from. The other option is you have enough of everything you could possibly even need and really think you can defend yourself and be the last one standing. Its probably a good idea to have a month or 2 of some items for comfort in a pandemic type event but if your prepping for an apocalyptic event your just buying how long you can make it before your morals have to be tested. tjm, Jerry Rapp, snagged in outlet 3 and 1 other 4

In some scenarios 80% of the population will be dead in 18 months….scavenging will be easy at 1st then difficult….the will to live is a powerful motivator….some can’t or won’t and give up… being in the US rather than say India the government has continuity of government nodes which at least 2 are within a easy drive from Branson…these “nodes” will help restart our way of life….depending on the disaster holding out might be 90days to as long as 5 years…..
