I personally could not think of a more severe punishment. That guy was feeling the stabs with each weight pulled out, and then the fillets on top of it. They deserve all they get, but none will compare to what he already went thru for that 15 minutes.

What is it about this particular incident that has made it go so viral ?  

There have been multiple others, far more interesting and clever, that never even made the news.   My favorite was the one where the guy had individual fish in a Rubbermaid tote with a flap cut into the top to pitch a heavy jig into.   When it came down to the specifics of the rules his actions were no worse than planting some brushpiles.  His amateur partner didn't even pick up on it.  🤷

That's where his ability to be SMART went all to hell.   

Had he just smiled and congratulated the tournament director for catching it, he could have said that he did it just to test the integrity of the weigh-in process.    Could have stated that he was going to come clean after he had check in hand.....just to prove a point.

In the end everyone would have thanked him and given him multiple high-fives.  👏

I don't think anyone was going to believe any of his lies. They looked much smarter than average Trump supporters.

This is the society we live in.  Maybe it wasn't this way in the past and our infatuation with social media has created this need for attention... or maybe not.  This tendency was on full display watching that character who caught Pujol's 7003 home run ball.  He was just in the right place and now he is famous and loving every minute of it.

Whether they believed it or not is irrelevant.    Nobody could have proven otherwise.  

And I think average Trump supporters are way smarter than you might be giving them credit for.

We had a fellow weighing in a gobbler for a contest.  Knowing most of the time they hang the bird by the neck, he felt he was safe.  They hung his by the feet and all of the water ran out his neck.  "Well I killed him by the creek getting a drink..."

Our bird won that round, we used ball bearings down the neck.  Stayed in place better....
