The FBI, CIA, the military and others distribute classified docs to congress and the white house on a daily basis. I guess distribute them widely and they do a p poor job of retrieving them from whom they have been distributed. It is the easiest and most likely answer.

In an honest, legal, and transparent system.......Why the need for so many classified or top-secret docs ?

I'm not at all concerned with how these documents are handled.   I'm more disturbed by the fact that they exist (in such ridiculous numbers) in the first place.

Meanwhile......Edward Snowden still can't come back home. 😢

All documents are "classified"  unimportant stuff is classified and stamped as "Un-Classified" and only Top Secret or above is really monitored as I recall.  I think we had "Confidential"  and "Secret" stuff all over the office.

As to why anything is classified, it goes back to "loose lips sink ships"; even trivial information lets the "enemy" build information profiles. From the politician's viewpoint everybody not on the reelection team is the "enemy".

As they say, follow the money to find the corruption. Here’s some facts for ya:

Over half of the members of congress are millionaires, most multi-millionaires. With the median net worth of all over $1 million at minimum.

The compensation for most senators, representatives,  delegates is $174,000 a year.  Almost every politician that has become wealthy has done so without having to run outside businesses, family money, etc., so they became rich off of getting paid on the side for persuading laws to lean right or left. Lots of big businesses pay lots of money to those corrupt suckers.  When they pass a law, they profit off of that law. Facts.

You know those laws against “insider trading”? Members of Congress are exempt from them. Really, they are.

They always know what laws they are going to pass and they know how the new rules will affect the market of certain sectors of the economy. All they have to do is make decisions to buy and sell stock using privileged information about how the playing field will change that not even C.E.O.s are aware of. This affects many different industries and sectors of the economy.

Also, did you know that a large number of congressmen are farmers? Yep, like real farmers, they’re outstanding in their fields. Well, except that politicians are corporate farmers. They own interest in HUGE farms and they pass laws that favor the mega corporate farms that have been putting family farms out of business. That’s why farm industry subsidies never get canceled.

Here we go- most of the political folks seem really dumb to me. They sure end up making a ton of money when they hold a political position. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely consider going into politics. I mean come on look at the mayor of Chicago and a certain VP.

I’m not going down this rabbit hole any further. If you have not realized it by know, life makes no sense. Enjoy they ride! Be Kind to others. Be Empathetic. Don’t be a stick in the mud.

In other words.....Just comply and be content with whatever freedom you're currently allowed, and consider yourself lucky that your situation isn't worse......cuz Lord knows it COULD BE.

If I hadn't been born in the '60's,  raised in the '70's......and have memories of how things worked back then, I'd probably agree.

I'll be giving myself a raise this year.

Just out of curiosity, what hourly rate would cause you to avoid bringing your boat/motor here for service?

For reference, I was at 120/hr. last year.  Customer satisfaction rate=98.6% (pretty darn proud of that 😊)

What did the 1.4% complain about?

That he was on the internet every time they popped in to check on their boat.
