I monitor my farmhouse with cameras.  2 wireless thermometers, on sensor in freezer, one in unheated part of house.  Put readouts in front of my inside camera.  I can tell if refrige is running and temps in house to confirm furnace still going.  All works well if power stays on.

Left freezer door open last summer when I grabbed ice pack to leave.  Sensor was in refrig part and was only showing a little warm.  I found a melted stinking mess that Friday because I was keeping ac off.

I hear thunder...

My neighbor flies a drone around every once in a while, sure would be fun to shoot it down, but that would create a few problems.

Just don't post a glory shot on FB and you should be fine.  I suggest just to wing it and let it drop on someone else's property for some additional deniability

I haven’t seen any here.   I think they purposefully avoided “fly over” country because someone would shoot them down😆.   God bless the Midwest!

This one sat over my place for 45 minutes Friday evening.  I turned my shop lights on and rode my bike up the road a bit just to get the pic.

It came from the south, sat in one spot awhile, then after 40-45 minutes it turned the big light off and headed west.. IMG_20241229_183850833.jpg

The part that makes no sense to me is Why is it always at night when it's dark ?   I've yet to see one buzzing around during the day, but after dark they are whizzing around everywhere.  Practically every night since Thanksgiving 🤔

That’s because they are hard to see during the daytime. I lose mine in the sky all the time. Kind of hard to miss one at night with the lights.

I see no more in Springfield than I have ever seen. Always a little increase around Christmas but other than that it’s pretty much the same. My wife is  unimpressed of me not freaking out about it like her.

That makes sense I guess.   But there's no way that the ones that we are seeing are being operated by someone within sight of them, they come & go from too far away.

Oddly enough nobody that I know is all freaked out about them. But all of us would kinda like to know what they are doing.  Of course there's all kinds of speculation 🙄 (Highway patrol, COE, Ameren?)

If some authority figure doesn't speak up about it..... it's only a matter of time before somebody takes one out with a deer rifle 😅

Big ice here. Anything above the dirt is frozen. Ice accumulated all night and this morning. Went to town earlier to visit Mom as she has taken a quick down turn last few days. On the way home high spots on the highway were getting slushy. Canada geese landing in frozen green winter wheat looking for something to eat. Temperature hanging at 32 under the porch. Wind gusts 22 mph. You can hear ice on trees crunching and a limb falling once and awhile. When wind changes to the direct north temperatures will plummet. At five this evening it is supposed to be 19. Welcome to winter finally.
