dtrs5kprs Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I know Mike M. knows about it big time, "BUT" this is the Classic, and its pretty hard to not fish your strength and what you know will work. In this deal, there is not a ton of time for experiment. Are they missing practice days because of the weather, or they on the water today trying to get it figured out? I could see someone turning to it in desperation, but not sure any of them would run it from Day1. It might take that to dial it in enough to win with it. Could be done, especially if the largemouth shut down. Still a lot of people that don't trust it when it comes to producing size due to the numbers it catches in the spring. In cold weather it really can be a big fish bait. There are a couple of others who might do something similar. Ike and Shin Fukae, notably.
Fish24/7 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I'm rooting for Hackney to pull the Grand Slam! He'll be the only angler that's won AOY in FLW and BASS, the Forrest Wood Cup, and just maybe the classic I think his best classic finish 5th was at hartwell back in 08 step aside boys, Grand Slam champion coming through ?!
crazy4fishin Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I don't know if Evers has enough gas left in his tank. I keep hearing he's talking about hanging it up and chasing cows around his ranch in Oklahoma. That was backed up by a co-angler I had recently who is related to Terry Butcher, a brother-in-law to Evers and former Elite Series pro. You might be right - didn't he also buy a grove of walnuts or pecans? That would be to bad as I have meet him a couple of times and he has a good personality and I like the way he fishes. You don't get a bait/jig named after you from a major lure manufacturer unless you are very good with it (SK Hack Attack Jig).
gitnby Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I'm going with Brian Williams! He's got some time off now, and even if he doesn't win, he will still tell a good fish story? jpb2187, JacobW and Diamond City Fisher 3
abkeenan Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I'm going with Brian Williams! He's got some time off now, and even if he doesn't win, he will still tell a good fish story? LOL. Pretty sure he was in the boat with Ike when he decided to put it 10 feet into a tree on the bank which was behind enemy lines littered with RPG wielding Sabine River woodland rebels. Or at least in Brian's mind he was.

I did hear from a friend the he had 3 extra hydro waves overnighted to him yesterday. Might be his time.
motoman Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Me and a buddy were talking; and he brought up Casey Ashley; which sounds like a solid bet to me. But I don't think A-Mart should be counted out either. - I don't think Evers head is quite in it; if he has other endeavors on his mind. - I would really like to see McClelland take it. - And Fish 24/7; you bring up a good point about using the cavitation plate and trim to help get you back in the boat. Although.........I recommend some people actually try it in some nice warm water first; it's not as easy as it sounds. Especially for some people who are not in decent physical shape. Transom design can really hinder things too. But certainly a last resort option!
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Im going with Jacob Wheeler, love seeing a young gun smoke his elders like he has been doing the last few years. He def has his work cut out for him with those guys though
mixermarkb Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I'm pulling for E2, but I do think he has had some demons to chase out of his head after losing AOY in such a dramatic way. He also has young kids at home, and I know how that has affected my bass fishing, I could see that being part of his "running out of gas" Shame, cause I do like his persona and he was on such an awesome roll of consistent finishes a while back- very versatile angler...
