fishinwrench Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I have installed well over 25 Hydrowaves this year. And in the last 3 years I have substantially upgraded a TON of sonar systems. After these guys have had these things awhile, attended seminars on their use, and everything else, I always make it a point to sneak in the question....."Are you catching any more fish than you used to?" The answer is always either a profound "No", or a "I don't think so", or a "I'm still not sure I'm using it right". So if the magic bubbling fish balls don't work.....then you just aren't using them right. Flysmallie and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
DADAKOTA Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 With the advances in depth finders, GPS, side imaging, down imaging, hydro wave, fish balls, let alone rods/reels/line/lures, etc. the sport of fishing is becoming more like a video game. To me part of fishing is the unknown that becomes known with time on the water. Found many a brushpile with a Carolina rig. Had to learn how to triangulate in order to find the pile again. Now you just download the piles onto the lake mapping system on your graph. At times I think the sport is evolving into catching and not fishing. Sure is fun to take a techno trained "fisherman" out on a river with no electronics other than the synapses in your brain. They often struggle as compared to someone who has an awareness of the activity level occurring in their surroundings, who can read the water, knows the fish they are after, understand the food source, the impacts of weather, structure, and cover. Many times when deer, birds, raccoon, insect, etc. are active the fish are feeding as well. Some never notice what is going on around them. A lot of folks can't find fish without all their gadgets. Well I like it. Just the other night I found some gps coordinates for some ultra secret brush piles that I was able to drive right to using my ultra fancy gps mapping system in my boat. Once there I used my quadruple HD sonar system to verify it's existence. Super easy on my 42" 4K screen. I picked out the fish I wanted. Of course I tied on a whopper plopper quad. They are new, even Champ doesn't have one. I tied a 3 foot leader to the back of the plopper to attach the alabama rig with the ned rig chaser. It was 47' deep but I put the power poles down anyways. But there must have been a front or something that was screwing with the density of the thermocline at the particular depth because I didn't catch a thing. Johnsfolly, ness, Terrierman and 4 others 7

That's because you weren't using the WII Kinect......get with the program man Flysmallie 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
MOPanfisher Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Don't be silly, you can't put a ned as a chaser, scares the fish. Flysmallie 1

David Unnerstall Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 In the eighties my buddy, Rick, had access to his late aunt's 350 acre farm on the Black River out of Mill Springs while it was in probate court. We were talking to Charlie, the cattle farmer next door, and Rick's buddy Kevin (who is not that bright) noticed all of the cattle were laying down and asked "what does that mean?" Charlie grinned and said "It just means they are tired."
fishinwrench Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 If the cows are laying in the SHADE then you should cast to the shade. If the cows are laying out in the open.....you should still cast to the shade. There's alot to be learned from cows. grizwilson 1
Old plug Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 All I know is three things about fishing and they are right time right place right way There is nothing and I mean nothing that will compare with those three skills. You cannot buy them. You got to earn them. As far as the cows in the shade I will go along with wrench I know he is pretty attuned to nature and the world around him. I am remembering one instance where he noticed plant blooming earlier on a bank than in the surrounding area. It caught him some nice messes of crappie. If you can understand why.

Old Plug, I am assuming you are referring to dogwoods blooming.....
