Hunter53 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 We are supposed to be here at Kimberling until next Saturday. With the rain and storms will we even be able to get out on the lake or will there be a ton of big floaters and be dangerous to be on the water? Will fishing even be any good for a while? Would we be better off to 'cut our loses' and just head home? We will be back in july and september also so this at least won't be our only trip of the year.
Ketchup Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Why cut it short? With so many ramps on the lake, and other fishable lakes in the area, the last thing i would do would be to leave. Look on a map, locate an area of any lake you want to fish, launch in that area to save from running around with potential of hitting something, and enjoy your stay. Just watched KVD's morning ritual before blast off, and on Ross where their fishing, same situation as here as far as rain, debris, but there its 40 mph winds. And hes excited to get out there. Especially after a good day yesterday. Just enjoy your vacation. If you want to try another area lake, head north to Pomme De Terre. More fish per acre, better size per acre, and less junk in the water. crazy4fishin and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Dutch Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Pomme is already 7' over power pool. Stockton is just now back to power pool. dan hufferd 1
crazy4fishin Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Ketchup is right....there are many places to launch and just fish the cove that you may be in or close....the other thing you could do is fish Taney! Above Coopers I bet the trout are starting to eat with the flood gates open Or you could go down lake and fish for bass down by powersite....that is also a nice boat ride....and like Ketchup said you could go a bit north C4F 96 CHAMP and vernon 2 Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
motoman Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I WAS in the same dilemma as you last night Hunter. Me and a buddy are staying in Kimberling, coming down tomorrow thru Wednesday. Kicked around cutting our losses and not going. But the resort we stay at has their own ramp; and we will just putter along from one cove to the next if we need too. - Plenty of huge coves to fish and I recalled the past few times I've been down with high water have been great fishing!........so we are going for it! vernon Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Just got home about an hour ago and am heading back down next Saturday. I can't say that I'm not at least a little concerned about what conditions might be like when we get back down there but canceling is not even a consideration. We've been there at some point or another during all of the epic flood events of the last 100 years (well almost all) and can always find something to do that's better than being at home. As Ketchup said, there's always some place to fish, you just might need to trailer to get there. Plus, if those fish get back up in the flooded trees and bushes you could be in for the trip of a lifetime! Heck, just driving around and sightseeing is better than leaving. Whenever it gets like this we always take a drive down to below the dam just to witness the awesome power of the water coming out of the flood gates. It's really something to see if you've never been down there. No matter how many times I visit that place, I'm still always sad when I have to leave and can never stand the wait to get back. No way I'm ever gonna cancel or bail early if it's up to me! Good luck and let us know how it goes. big c, crazy4fishin and Daryk Campbell Sr 3 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." dtrs5kprs Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Water in the back of the resort coves around Schooner is now brown, choked with debris of all types. Upside is that if the sun gets on it and warms it up, fish should pull on in. Too many downsides to list. grizwilson, bobby b., vernon and 2 others 5
Members Bassin Girl Posted April 29, 2017 Members Posted April 29, 2017 Thanks guys. We REALLY don't want to cut our trip short!! We have done all the sight seeing and Branson stuff we want to do. We are ready for fishing and fishing only right now. As of now we are planning on staying until Monday and see what the lake looks like. This is actually Hunter53. Left my phone in camper so was on wife's phone and didn't realize I was logged in as her. Carl W, magicwormman, Donna G and 2 others 5
MOPanfisher Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 If Taneycomo doesn't get blown out the trout fishing ought to be good in a day or 2 as well.
Members Joenothum Posted April 29, 2017 Members Posted April 29, 2017 Get above fall creek on Taney and fishing will be awesome. They have had flood gates open before this rain hit so the trout should be getting locked onto shad by now. grizwilson 1
